First off, I have gotten two "dudes" on this topic. And anybody that knows Dudeology knows that Spike's carries more weight than Jay's because of the added two "u"'s and the exclaimation point.

Secondly, while sitting in the "John Conrad For President National Campaign Headquarters" a week or so ago, I uttered the statement that O.M.D. was definitely "one of my favorite bands of the eighties". I mean check out that string of hits: "Maid Of Orleans", "Locomotion", "If You Leave", "So In Love", "Tesla Girls", "Genetic Engineering", "Telegraph",
"Forever Live And Die", "Secret".

Now, if you had them confused with the hip hop/rap OMD, you are forgiven.

Okay, so only a couple of them were hits here. Just remember the phrase that sums up my 30 years in radio: "What do Americans know?"....

I know you have heard The Verve Pipe's - The Freshman. Very big song circa 1997. It also had a ton of airplay on Sirius' The Pulse.

The scary part is half of FOBM's list is also on my iPod. And while I was listening to the radio this morning on the way to the office, I discovered that I need the song Ballroom Blitz on their as well.

You are probably right. Most songs aren't "sold" on the radio anymore -- you just hear song, then sweeper, then song, then song, then the DJ with no references as to what was just on the air.

How do young people learn the names of songs they like?

I'm going to check my Yahoo! Music Jukebox and a few other sources. I've probably heard many of these songs before, but I can't put a title and artist with the tune ...

Almost anything that was hot in alternative and some CHR is on my Zune. I have about 300 songs from the past three years, including a 4 CD "Best Modern Rock of the 90's" compilation thrown in for some gold in the mix. About 40 songs.

I'll also be adding more stuff from the 90's and the early 00's. And then comes a massive 80's folder with some earlier stuff thrown in, that I keep separate from the newer stuff.

In all, I'll have about 1,500 songs on it by the time I'm finished. Plus, I'm constantly adding new stuff to it.

As for Paramore, I only have two of their songs on my Zune, MB and Crushcrushcrush, which is a promising single.
