So many other directions they could have gone...
create reports that coach kidd has been seen leaving the offices of a sister station in a limo provided by said sister station. Most people don't know that the stations are related.
(Thanks to whoever posted that above.. Brilliant.)
Next I would have cheapo radio sets with electric logos on them manufactured amidst reports that Coach Kidd wanted his listeners to have free access to his show, and that contract negotiations have failed him in this way.. You can get these from the dollar store and put the small bumper stickers on them..
Don't forget that rich rod had several flirtations with other schools.. this could have legs if they choose to do it that way.
Have the station even interview replacements from around town and give them a tryout.

it's Krab, not Crab. I'm not going to go all mean on you, I'll just post the same post every Sunday for two months.ashton on the beach wrote:Maybe I don't know them as well as I think.. It's been a while. But for my two cents, I think Coach will be back. I also don't think it's a stunt. And now I await Crab telling me what a horrible DJ I was while I was there. These are the things that mettling (meddling? A little help here..) will get me when Bristol is the target.
Nothing but love.
Vision? What do you know about my vision?
My vision would turn your world upside down, tear asunder your illusions, and send the sanctuary of your own ignorance crashing down around you.
Now ask yourself, are you ready to see that vision?

Yeah....but everyone will forget about this before 2008 begins and listening habits will go back to normal.
Plus, I'm sure those that "hated" Coach for this truly enjoyed him getting egged as form of revenge for his comments.
However, I think they could have made a bigger splash with this. But, good effort overall.

COACH IS A MICHIGAN FAN! Plain and simple.Dr Fever wrote:yeah, i'll second that notion Dave.
Nothing he did was out of line if you are a true MICHIGAN fan. He is fucking FROM MICHIGAN!
On the other hand... If he were from California and a USC fan or something, and he was just hatin' on WVU just to be hatin' on WVU, then I can fully understand your points.
However, HI IS A MICHIGAN FAN!

I'm not sure what that has to do with airing a stunt that alienates listeners. I know that some people feel that any publicity is good publicity, but I don't think that's true.fanofbigmedia wrote:AND!Dave Harman wrote:Now everyone hates their morning guy. I'm just talking about what is best in the long run for his station, not about his first amendment rights. Those two topics aren't related.

i'm from west virginia...born and raised...and i'm mountaineer fan till the day I die. BUT, for as long as I can remember in my 30 years on this rock, my OTHER team has always been Michigan.
Granted, I may not actually be from Michigan, but still...I am a Michigan fan. And, yet, you didn't (and don't) see me playing their fight song on the air.
I guess my point is this; WOULD Coach have done that if this wasn't a planned stunt? I doubt it...'cause why in the HELL would you want to potentially alienate a large portion of your audience? and on purpose no less!

Have people lost all sense that if they hear something "outrageous", they're likely being effed with? At least that's the first thing I think...
I mean, we're talking sports here... It's not like he was a Satanist who started dissing Jesus or something.
But, as rabid as some of these WVU fans are, I guess he might as well have.

no, that's the christmas eve morning show stunt i have planned for monday.K-Rock wrote:It's not like he was a Satanist who started dissing Jesus or something.
2 thoughts.
1) knowing the guys up there on the hill, i congratulate them on stirring the shit pot. timely, controversial, and with a very good charitable payoff at the end. well executed, as to not set off listeners BS detectors. and the public apology thing, i read in the article, fits right in with coach's on air character. he's his own whipping boy, he's developed that persona since day 1 of that morning show. i've been out of the state for quite some time. so, i can't imagine the public state-of-mind over the coach leaving WVU. AND... anyone who's listened to that morning show for any length of time will know coach is a Michigan fan, especially with all the BIG press they got early in the season for that pitiful loss to appy state. i'm sure he caught major on air grief for that. with that being said, the stunt seems kind of obvious to me, but still very well done.
there is no such thing as bad press until you do something that truly is bad. Zak Tyler Dec. 2007
2) if this truly wasn't a stunt, which i very highly doubt since it was orchestrated so well, then i'm glad bristol fired me in 2002. cuz this year alone i'd have been fired at least a couple dozen times for things i've done on the air here. we're in show business folks. if you take the show out of the business we might as well shut off the transmitters and save the electricity.
I'm not an idiot, but I play one on the radio.

But isn't that exactly what has happened at so many radio stations across the country?Zak Tyler wrote:we're in show business folks. if you take the show out of the business we might as well shut off the transmitters and save the electricity.
Automation.
Voice tracking.
Stale, national, consultant-driven playlists.
Stations that are nothing more than commercials and music.
Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

Sure....dang helpful! I think everyone actually doing it will agree!Hoosier Daddy wrote:Automation.
Yes....reasonable early, has gone much too far now.Voice tracking.
Just does not happen like you keep insisting it does. You and your netkook sources just have this wrong and always have. Why do you keep at it? What do you hope to or think you gain by repeating this lie over and over?Stale, national, consultant-driven playlists.
What would a consultant get out of playing his favorites at some station a thousand miles out of earshot? What would a programmer get out of playing his favorites over listeners' favorites? You guys who believe and spread this nonsense never bother thinking through the next step and asking yourself those simple questions.....
Besides, they're listener-driven "safe" lists! (And that's what they are...they are not playlists!) Where do "consultants" come up with their "safe" lists? From combining the exact responses of thousands of actual listeners, not other "consultants!"
Hopefully an intermediate step...we'll see.Stations that are nothing more than commercials and music.
