South Park Split Discussion

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

As I don't watch South Park (usually at the opera on those nights), what does "snuke" mean?

"Snizz nuke"

Terrorists were wanting to smuggle a nuclear bomb into the US and needed something that's not been used in forever and had a zero chance of being seen. The terrorists chose Hillary's vagina.

Throughout the episode, characters used the words "snatch," "snizz," and "snit" over and over and eventually began calling the "snatch nuclear weapon" a "snuke."

Eventually, some poor soul had to go in after it.......I don't remember what happened after that.

The first season was hysterical. The rest... well... that's individual opinion I guess.

Most episodes are funny the first time you see them. After that, they're not funny anymore.

What doesn't that describe??

A major component of all "funny" is surprise!

I don't care how many times I see these fellers with Andre Previn, and it must be into the hundreds by now, I'm in tears laughing - literally - every time I watch it.

Most shows only get slightly less funny. Seinfeld, Scrubs and many other comedies can be watched numerous times before they start reaching the point of "ugh... I don't want to watch this episode again".

South Park gets to "oh god, I'd rather watch an infomercial than see this episode again" after only one viewing.

Interesting.......

What you all are saying is that more nuanced and more sophisticated comedy works better than "shock" when it comes to lifespan and establishing a positive, enduring relationship.

Sooooo........

Is that what's on your radio? If not, why not?

SP is genius in the sense that they make fun of absolutely everything and everybody in the most over-the-top ways imaginable. Nothing is sacred.

And I don't like anything to be sacred, or anybody to be taken too seriously. Otherwise, they're asking for it.

Even the really old "Weight Gain 4000" and the anal probe episodes still make me laugh.

Sorry about that...

One problem I think that SP has, though, is that many of the episodes are responses to current events. So in that sense, the series is dating itself. It will be interesting to see how it will be perceived in 20 years, after all of the events fade from memory.

It will probably be the same as some of the comedy that our parents and grandparents found amusing that left us scratching our heads...

Apples and Oranges, we were talking about television.

Shock humor is most popular on radio because 1) It's new everyday, 2) Most of shock radio's audience is driving.

1) If there were only 24 new episodes of Howard Stern each year, his audience wouldn't be a tenth of what it is now. Even if we scale up to account for the fact that shock radio shows are on five days a week rather than just one (as with South Park), then there would still only be 120 new shows a year. If every other morning was an exactly-as-aired repeat of a previous episode, few would listen.

2) Driving requires a great deal of one's brain. Since most of shock radio's audience is driving, they only have so much of their brain to devote to the radio. The jokes have to be simpler so the audience can laugh without also driving into a utility pole.
