EMF Buys Two More

EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION is buying two stations serving WEST VIRGINIA from MARANATHA RADIO for a total price of $900,000. EMF is buying noncommercial class A Gospel WMEJ/PROCTORVILLE, OH-HUNTINGTON, WV and noncommercial class B1 (with CP for C2) Gospel WZWA/CLARKSBURG, WV.

MARANATHA is holding onto Gospel WXAF/CHARLESTON while EMF adds the two acquisitions to its Contemporary Christian WKVW (K-LOVE) and new WWLA/CHARLESTON and Contemporary Christian WLVW (K-LOVE)/MOUNDSVILLE-WHEELING and translators statewide.

JOHN PIERCE AND CO. served as exclusive broker for the deal.

No C-2's in West Virginia. This would be a B if WZWA's increase is granted.

Remember EMF owns Belpre (91.9) and Ripley (90.7) which cover the I-77 corridor, as well as 95.9 in Grafton

WMEJ has been ripe for the picking for a long time. Of all the different Christian formats, this one has the least listeners of all. It has been a total waste for years. This will be a big improvement for the non-commercial band in Huntington.

I am shocked that these were not picked up by CDR Radio Network. This would be two great sticks to add to The Path network.

WMEJ (Wonderful Music Exalting Jesus), at 91.9 FM, was a Class A-ish non-comm that featured "older" gospel music artists like George Beverly Shea. The station's tower is on Ohio 243 at Shaffertown Road between Chesapeake and Proctorville in Lawrence County and gives fairly solid Wheelersburg to Hurricane coverage. From east Huntington, you can see the tower peeking over the hilltops just across the river.

The station was started as a hobby in the mid 80s, if I recall correctly, by a former WEMM employee and his family. I don't remember the station ever being marketed or advertised in the market. It seemed to exist strictly from the benevolence of the older church crowd.

With EMF having 94.9, this extends their coverage in South Eastern Ohio/WV...

This also gives Huntington a 24/7 Christian AC formated station...

Didn't CC try this with JOY Radio? I am not sure if Huntington can go past it fundamental Christian roots to appreciate the love in modern Christian AC. Of course, KY just voted out the Christian Conservative in favor of a Democrat who is going to bring the horrible sin of gambling to the Bluegrass State.

Speaking of which, I think I am due for a trip to Atlantic City this weekend. The casinos are very pretty with the Christmas lights shining on the one armed bandits and gaming tables.

Plus, the slot parlors in Philly just don't do it for me anymore.
