I can remember hearing announcers reference her going back through the 1980's.

She was the receptionist extrodinaire!! A Rock 105 legend...I hate to hear about her death....she was always very nice to me when I worked there.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Emma's passing today. By the way, thanks Chris C. for giving me the call. I have to say that I have never met anyone like her and probably never will. Of all the losses 105 has suffered through the years with departures of very talented jocks, sales demons and GMs (hey..they all weren't bad), this one is by far the biggest. EMMA WAS ROCK 105. She'll be deeply missed.

Truely a great loss. She was indeed one of a kind. You may have bumped heads with her on the front end but you ended up appreciating her when all was said and done. She will be missed but forgotton.

Yesterday was such a weird day for me...I was on the way to taking my son to the E.R. (he's fine, btw) when Ray Long called me and told me about this.

So so so sad.

She made us the best lunch ever last week. She was our work mother, she took care of us and she will always be part of who we are.

Everytime we played Led Zep's "Boogie w/ Stu" she was caught dancing.
No other song seemed to work.

Emma Luella Allen

Emma Luella Allen, 64, of Bancroft died October 29, 2007, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.

Emma was a 25-year employee of WKLC - Rock 105.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Louise Gillispie McClung, and her son, Samuel Todd Allen.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence Zemra Allen III and his wife, Valerie, of South Charleston; granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Allen of Scott Depot; best friend, Cherrie A. Bailey of Bancroft; and all of her many friends at Rock 105.

A time of fellowship honoring the life of Emma Luella Allen will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston.

Those unable to attend may send a message to the family by visiting www.snodgrassfuneral.com and selecting the Honoring Life Condolence Center icon.

Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, is handling the arrangements.

I'll miss the hell out of Emma. She loved to torment sales people, especially new ones, which I took great joy in. Emma was like a mother to all of us guys at WKLC, and will be missed like a member of my own family. The last time I visited Rock 105 I was so happy to see her that I gave her a big hug, needless to say she almost killed me. I forgot the Emma rules; 1. No touching, and 2. No pictures. If you followed those simple rules, she would let you live to broadcast another day. The few who chose to piss Emma off on purpose, paid for it. A couple never came near her again. The woman was as hardcore as she was sweet, and that is an awesome quality.

I can remember when I started at 105 back in '98 as an intern...every day I came into the building seemed to sync with an Emma smoke break. So, i'd stand outside and chat with her until we were both done smoking and have some very good conversation.

It's been said already, but allow me to echo it: She was one of a kinda. As much a part of Rock 105 as anything else you could name.

She will be missed.

I just wanted to say how great it was to see everyone at the gathering for Emma last week. Everyone except one person that is... I worked with this quirky woman for 21 years and there is not enough time to tell all the stories. They are still popping into my head. The ice eating, the camera phobia, the mandatory Secretary's Day/Week presents, the crocheted (sp?) Christmas decorations, the preference for a "dry bar" at a party ... the list goes on and on. Driving home in the dark last night, I was reminded about the leaving earlier and earlier in the Winter to beat the dark. Departure time was in direct reference to the Almanac's sunset time.

She will obviously be missed and not possibly replaced. Animal, I know you are hurtin', but I am so glad you were there for her. In addition to spending time with the radio people, we had the chance to talk to her son, Larry and help him to get to know how much Emma meant to so many people. Even though you just wanted to shake your head at some of the things she could come up with, ya' just had to like her.

Good Luck, you 105er's...you are going to need it.
now I slink back into my little non-radio world
