Wow!

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

What did you think, that Marshall was going to go down there and win? Look, I'm a Marshall guy, but I'm also a realist. Look for a much worse result next week against WVU.

No, I expected them to get their asses handed to them.

Seriously, it's good that you're a realist and not some fanboy who thinks they'd win, like some local media personalities around here.

But damn...what about Mich(overrated)igan losing??? And Notre(even more overrated)Dame???

Although the neghborhood has become even more...rough...in recent years, it's been Miami's custom to fill the Orange Bowl. It may -- may! -- have been 45% today.

By the way, honest to goodness, when I saw this in the TV schedule, I thought for sure it was Miami of Ohio!

So, what are they supposed to say about it on the air?

If they are broadcasting to Marshall fans, have business relationships with Marshall University, are employed or approved by Marshall University, and have emotional connections to Marshall University what are they supposed to say?

There isn't one single sane Marshall fan who had it in their head The Herd was going to beat Miami or has it in their head The Herd is going to beat West Virginia.

There isn't one single sane Marshall fan who doesn't have it in their head an upset is always possible. Ask a Michigan fan about the possibility of an upset.

That possibility is what you are hearing about in local media, not the idea that Marshall is likely to win these games.

The only analysis you would accept as accurate would be if someone literally got on the air and said "Marshall sucks. They have always sucked and always will. Ohio State is best, always has been, and always will. No one should ever be a fan of Marshall or any other school. There should only be Ohio State fans."

I understand why you want to get on Marshall at any opportunity. It's the same reason I want to get on championship-game-losing Ohio State at any opportunity. It's the simple fun of shit talking about football.

Shit talking about football is right, proper, and the duty of all patriotic Americans.

Shit talking about broadcasters in Huntington doing what is right, proper, and what they are paid to do is both silly and a little dishonest.

Fuck Ohio State.

How is it silly AND dishonest? I wasn't being dishonest about it, what I said was not a lie in my heart of hearts, Jay. Therefore, it wasn't dishonest and I will not go to Hell for that.

If I want to bitch about the local media always swinging off the nuts of Marshall on this forum, my Myspace page, or any other outlet, I will. I can't help it if Marshall isn't good enough to compete with the big boys, I can't help it if they only win 5 games this year. And I'll continue to bash the local media for giving the ol' Blundering Turd a reach around and spotlight players who'll never make it to the NFL. I wonder how many Ohio State'ers are in the NFL now compared to Marshall...

Of course, any team is capable of an upset, if they have the players to do so. You comparing Appalachian State to Marshall is like comparing Logan County to New York. Appalachian State has won back-to-back championships and Marshall has been swimming in a sea of suckiness for years.
There isn't one single sane Marshall fan who doesn't have it in their head an upset is always possible.
But see, you're not sane! You're pretty much saying Marshall has a shot at the #3 team in the nation! Dude, Marshall doesn't have a shot against the "B" team of Poca this year!

Poor Jay, the only put-down he has is OSU losing the National Championship game last season.

See Jay, WE would rather lose to a real football program like Florida than to a bunch of Bobby Bouche' wanna-bes like Marshall.

Marshall....

Actually there are a lot of similarities between New York City and Logan County. Both have a disproportionate number of people who barely speak English and have an odd smell. Both have a lot of insane drivers and both have fanatical sports fans who think their teams can do no wrong.

As for the local media hyping Marshall, again like Jay said, what are they supposed to do? Huntington, for example, is Marshall. Marshall is what drives the whole town, so of course they are going push them.

The Appy State game was amazing..

Here those guys are playing in a stadium with 109,000 people, 106,000 rooting against them, and this little school with a home stadium with a max capacity of less than 17,000, and an enrollment of 1,700 beat them all day long!

Amazing stuff.

It's App State.
Appy is too hard for the folks in Boone to spell.
Think how bad they would have kicked Ohio State's ass.

Ok, ok, ok...I'll say it... I thought the Herd would beat Miami...honest to god....but I HIGHLY HIGHLY underrated the Miami D....I will say, we held our own in the first half...if it werent for so many goddamn dumbass rookie penalities it could have been a game....and that first interception..WASNT an interception...it hit the ground, I saw it..but that's neither here nor there....we beat ourselves...against teams like Murray State or someone like that you can overcome a rough start, but teams like Miami can smell blood like sharks in the ocean....plus their D line got the best of our ROline....Bnard didn't have a chance in hell....and the Bnard thing, he's the best we got...he's got some decent rcvrs now and he can run the ball well if needed, he just didn't get a chance against Miami..he still has issues with not checking off on the field, he tends to zero in on one guy and thats it but he's getting a little better at that...Anderson is coming along, Cann is decent but still green...the future is the guy from Gtech that has to sit this year...he ROCKS but since he's a D1 transfer, he can't do shit this year....

BTW, we started 11 freshman on Saturday...ELEVEN....next Saturday will be rough but it will be a flip of last week...good Offense, bad Defense...our real test will be Cincy in a couple of weeks...
I still say 6-6 with a bowl game this year....I BELIEVE!!!

BTW 2...I did get to see the fam while in Miami and my dad got a key to the city which was really cool!!

BTW, Herd Girl, I gotta give you your props. While doing a remote Saturday we had the Marshall game going in the background. You do an excellent job with the sideline reporting.

Unfortunately I don't have the Big Ten network at my house (not that I'd expect Nashville Comcast to have it when they don't even have ESPN U), but I did listen to the second half of that Michigan/App. State game on Sirius. Wow. I knew the scoop on A-State (I wrote about them on Draft King in July, in particular about Corey Lynch, the guy who blocked the kick at the end) but still who would have thought that they could go into the Big House and beat Michigan?

A friend of mine who is a huge Michigan fan and spent a few semesters at the school told me he thinks Lloyd Carr should have been fired yesterday (kind of odd to do it on a holiday, but whatever.) I predict that if he doesn't beat Ohio State this year, he's out.
