I am sick, sick, I tell you.

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

A common virus that causes colds can be a factor in obesity, according to a study released Monday offering further evidence that a weight problem may be contagious.

The adenovirus-36 (Ad 36) has already been implicated as the cause of weight gain in animals, but with this study researchers showed for the first time that it can also cause humans to pile on the pounds.

The findings could accelerate the development of a vaccine or an antiviral medication to help fight the battle of the bulge alongside diet and exercise.

"We're not saying that a virus is the only cause of obesity, but this study provides stronger evidence that some obesity cases may involve viral infections," said Magdalena Pasarica, an obesity researcher at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

A previous study found that almost a third of obese people are infected with the virus compared to around one in 10 of their leaner counterparts.

people will blame anything for their poor eating habits and lack of excercise. I know there are people in this world who honestly cant be blamed for their weight, genetics can be a bitch and all but really, first its mcdonalds fault then its something else, now its a cold....

I was small and underweight as a child....right up until the time I went into that hospital to have my tonsils removed.

And we all know there's no better place to catch things than in a hospital.

Those came out when I was in kindergarten. By the time I entered second grade, I was no longer underweight....I had officially become "husky."

I'm gonna hafta sue 'em, I think.

I hated that term when I was a kid. I always had to wear the husky jeans while all the other children got to wear "slim" and "regular." It still pisses me off.

I don't recall having eaten that much as a young kid either. I'll has to ask my mum.

Don't get bit on the thigh by a rabid beaver. You will gain 50 lbs. Thats if you don't remove the beaver from your thigh. (see thread rabid beaver).

Save yourself!!! remove the BEAVER from your thigh now!

Or you can purchase my .... Beaver Cleaver for only $19.99, and if you act with in the next 10 seconds I'll also send you a coupon for a Big Mac.

Funny, the near exact same thing happened to me. After reading your post I decided to do a quick web check, and I found this:

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/38626.php

A study by a University at Buffalo pediatric researcher investigating the causes of weight gain in children after they have their tonsils and adenoids removed to treat sleep-disordered breathing has shown that removing these tissues results in less fidgeting and other non-exercise motor activity.

This reduction in motor activity left an excess of calories, findings showed, resulting in an average 13 percent increase in excess weight based on participants' age, sex and height.
