Entertainer, Businessman Griffin Dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Merv Griffin, the entertainer turned impresario who parlayed his "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" game shows into a multimillion-dollar empire, has died. He was 82.

Griffin died of prostate cancer, according to a statement from his the family that was released by Marcia Newberger, spokeswoman for The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment.

Merv did an interview with Fox & Friends' Brian Kilmeade right about two months ago, an interview that was broken up into three or four pieces which were aired on consecutive Mondays recently. With each one, I found myself with the same thought -- "Wow, this guy looks great, sounds great, and is probably about as sharp as ever...maybe even better! Why isn't he doing or filling in on a show somewhere?"

Seeing the "grave condition" article yesterday and this news today has been stunning.

I always got Merv Griffin confused with Mike Douglas.

Spike, wasn't it true that Merv had more than his fair share of fingers in his arsehole?

But, you know, Spike, it's widely held by some in the medical community that almost all males--if they live long enough--will develop some degree of prostatic malignancy.

I think a few moments of discomfort and embarrassment are worth it.

I read somewhere that your chances of getting it or having it roughly corresponds with your age.

If that's the case, then 100% of males 100 years old or older have some form of prostate cancer.

If I make it to 100, I doubt if I would care, or even know who I was anyway...

But remember that no matter what age you are, you still want to be healthy!

Wouldn't it be great to be on the air at age 100?!

It'd be great to be on the air at 28, but I have this thing where I like to be able to afford health insurance. I'll eventually need to a finger in my ass, and I don't want to pay for it out of pocket like Nunley. Also, unlike Jay, the finger will belong to a doctor.

You -- we -- pay for everything out-of-pocket! It's just a question of "when."

Aside from that, the only thing you're deciding is who the middle men in the transaction will be. "None at all" is the best choice, of course, but.....
