We Need to fix ALL the bridges NOW! As long as taxes don't go up.

And now, a poem for WV bridges.

Your bridges are shaky, your momma's your daughter.

Lots of ass covering going on in Minnesota.
The beams under the bridge were reportedly twisting some time ago.
Please notice that the concrete columns have shifted away from the river on one side. This may be due to the collapse, but I don't think so. Twisting of the beams in the truss under the bridge indicate uneven distribution of load stresses and, coupled with the corrosion and reported stress fractures, sorta indicate a bridge in trouble.

Not to worry.
We are assured that the DOT in WV has their crack team of bridge inspectors on the job.

WV bridge inspectors are required to have a degree from an accredited 4 yr high school. No GED's here.

yah, that bridge scares the hell outa me.... I dont see whats wrong with the dunbar bridge, I drive over it pretty regularly.

Damnit.. It is the Nitro/St. Albans bridge I was thinking about. I get the two confused. It is the Nitro/St. Albans bridge where traffic constantly backs up. It reminds me of the old 6th Street bridge in Huntington----before Bobby Byrd rescued us from the fate we were sure to meet (or was it Nick Rahal?)

Surely....please say it's more.

I dunno....maybe the inspection of bridges isn't anything like the design and building of them.

"Statics" is the branch of physics that is closest to things like bridge-design, and "Statics" might have been the hardest course I ever took. I may or may not have passed it...I honestly don't remember. I was getting into radio at the time, and....

Anyway, you think such things are pretty straight-forward and simple.....no way...no way in the world.

BEIJING (AP) - A bridge under construction in an ancient Chinese city collapsed as workers removed scaffolding from its facade, killing at least 22 people and leaving 46 missing, state television reported Tuesday.

The official Xinhua News Agency said 64 people were rescued, including 22 who were injured when the 1,049-foot bridge spanning the Tuo River in Hunan province collapsed Monday. The cause of the collapse was under investigation, it said.

The 140-foot-high bridge in Hunan's Fenghuang County had four decorative stone arches and was scheduled to open as a tourist attraction at the end of this month, Xinhua said. It collapsed as 123 workers were removing scaffolding from its facade, it said.
