I really think this thing is just a random number generator. My only crime is driving a GMC Sierra 1500 (5.3l v8). Teachers, like DJs need second jobs. I do some construction over the summer and late spring. The vehicle is a requirement. I converted my whole house to flourescent lighting, I recycle, I turn shit off, etc.. You know it didn't ask about tankless water heaters, etc.. All of that being said, 473/23tons.

Take away the truck and I'm at 367/15 tons This means that my truck accounts for 8 tons of carbon on its own.

Let's say that every gallon of gasoline is converted directly to carbon.. No energy released (think about it...) or mass lost in this conversion... There's no such thing as a perfect conversion, where energy and mass are both the same. e=mc2 (I don't know how to make the squared sign on my computer, but you get the point.) We'll get to this later and more in depth.

1 gallon of gasoline weighs roughly 6 lbs.
(8 lbs for water, but gas is lighter.)

16000 pounds of carbon or gas in this perfect conversion/ 6 pounds per gallon.

2667 gallons of gasoline used in a year.

I average about 18 mpg in my truck.

2667 gallons x 18mpg

48006 miles driven.

I actually drive about 12,000 miles per year...

This is to say that my car creates carbon mass at a rate of 4:1 where the carbon output is 4x the the mass of the gasoline burned to make it.

4:1 in a perfect world, mind you.

e=mc2

Remember that Mass can be converted to energy, using e=mc2.. once again, this is in a perfect world that everything functions as such. There are parasitic losses, which drop the level of usable energy, but just the idea that there is, indeed energy being produced in my engine means that mass will be lost.. Most notably in the form of heat.

now we're higher than 4 times the amount of fuel, being turned into carbon emissions... It really doesn't make sense.

I probably scored on the low end because I have a car that gets 40 mpg highway, even though I drive about 17k per year.

I probably always will go with fuel efficient vehicles, as long as I have no practical purpose for a larger, less fuel efficient vehicle. By then, I hope there are more larger hybrid/alternate fuel vehicles to choose from.

I recycle everything I can within reason, turn off lights and let my computer hibernate, unplug unused transformers, and slowly converting to LED bulbs.

I'm not fully on board with Gore's Doomsday scenarios, but it certainly doesn't hurt to little "green" things within reason. For one, it saves money on utilities.

So, did anybody watch Live Earth. I didn't stay up late enough to see the Police or BonJovi (yeah, I'm a wuss), but overall, I thought Live Aid had better acts and even better sound.
