I dislike skateborders. They are in parking garages and crash into your car.
They are on the sidewalks and are so out of control they knock people over.
They will not go to empty parking lots because they need an audience.
I do love to see the little bastards faceplant tho.

it's different around here. the kids do go to empty parking lots, and boarded up gas stations, school parking lots in the summer, and down neighborhood sidewalks to get to the places where they gather. i'm sure there are some around here that break and bend the rules, but most of the ones i come in contact with just want a place to do what they like to do with their friends. as a matter of fact there's a HUGE skate park 5 minutes from the station here, that partially burned down last year (lightning strike i think). we did a huge poker run fund raiser for it... covered the majority of the cost for the city.

OH COME YOU PUSS.... 2 teenage boys and a teenage girl. and the girl was the biggest of the bunch. he was just an over weight power trippin "street cop" pissed off that he's got the foot patrol and not a motor vehicle patrol so he can sit on his fat ass all day.

i've got plenty of respect for law enforcement. until they stop serving the public interest. how many onlookers do you think saw that and thought to themselves, he's really being too forceful with those kids. sure a few probably thought the way you did. "lock those little bastards up, law breakin so-and -so's".

there are different ways to handle diffeerent situations, and he didn't choose the right one. he proved it 30 seconds into the video when he went tearing off after that kid that was just standing by watching that said he had a picture of the guy choking his buddy. i'm sure if the cop wasn't so fat he could have caught the kid. i'd bet he would have confiscated the camera (or phone whichever it was) and deleted the evidence. (purely speculation of course).

he probably could have got them to stop riding on the sidewalk by just asking nicely. most skaters don't look to get into trouble, they look for a place to skate.

19 and 21 are not "kids"... and in my humble opinion, they're both too g*d damn old to be riding skateboards on a sidewalk.

"Asking nicely".... like a sign posted that says you can't do that... that they ignore anyway? That's the problem with video, there is no context. Does he have history with these idiots? Was this the only time he had spoken to them that day? Maybe he did ask nicely, and that video didn't make it to YouTube. You are seeing a moment in time directed entirely by people who have a motive for how it is presented.

This video, and the article, have ZERO CONTEXT. The kids who are likely to get in trouble if this doesn't go their way are the only ones talking. The cop, by the very nature of his job, doesn't have that luxury.

Hell, the way they keep repeating "I was riding a skateboard" shows they are there for a political statement.

The best solution is for the governing body to allow the cop to confiscate the skateboards. Destroy them and let mommy and daddy shell out the money for new ones. Issue citations to the skateborders that violate private property and support citizens who are injured or their property damaged in civil lawsuits. I would leave choking, tasers and pepper spray till last.
Maybe let k-9 units chase the borders and bite them...yeah.

On second viewing, it sounds like the cop was trying to "ask nicely", but the video didn't start rolling until after he had taken him down. ("When I tell you to stop and you tell everybody to keep going, that's fleeing.")

yes, "kids" 19-21 should know better, give them a ticket and make them pay for breaking the law... but also, by the looks of the video, only the first kid was in trouble to begin with... did the cop have to grab ahold of his neck while he was on the sidewalk on his back?

but you are right, context would be good, to properly place an argument on this one. that's why i've used the standard innocent until proven guilty mindset

The first one arrested was 13... hanging out with at least one 19 and one 21 year old.

My, how a generation changes things.

When I was growing up, the mantra from my parents was "If you get in trouble in school (at the neighbor's house, with the law, et. al.), you're going to be in MORE trouble when you get home".

When a teacher, another parent, a police officer, or ANY adult in charge told you to stop doing something (or otherwise gave you specific direction), you did it. There was no challenging of authority, no open defiance, and none of this "my daddy'll sue your ass off if you lay a hand on me".

Society has made a wrong turn here. Unfortunately, it's too late for most of today's self-indulgant, 'I can have EVERYTHING my way' crowd.

The only thing I saw that was wrong with that is that the cops weren't rough enough. When the one kid kept talking I would have had to have planted a number 12 in his ass. He has the badge, he has the gun...end of story. You were wrong, you dumb shits. Cops don't have enough authority in my opinion. If that would have been my kid I would have said take their punk asses to jail and burn their fucking boards.

i'm on both sides of this one, I saw this vid a few days ago and i'm glad to see something finally being done to this cop. And thats only for the fact that he was strangling a KID who was already HANDCUFFED..... i bet any of you would complain if a cop kicked the shit out of you after he had already handcuffed you....
