I REALLY hate to do this... BUT

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

ok, i'm up way later than i'm used to and caught myself watching TNA wrestling... (and for those that speak anglinsh... that'd be "wrasslin'")

and i see this dude on there that looks like he's trying to pull off a really bad macho man impersonation. it's annoying and stupid. am i not the demo their looking for? or is it really REALLY supposed to be that bad.

"Their" instead of "they're"? Yes, you are in the demo.

You are damn sexy Zak, or so my wife tells me. Anyway, the demo they're looking for is anyone that doesn't like WWE. Problem is TNA is almost as stupid.

..and as we have discussed in various other threads before, we are not the demo, Zak. They are looking for people who like "sports entertainment", not "rasslin". What has happened to wrestling reminds me a lot of what has happened to country music over the years. Its all image and "the look". For my thoughts on that I would suggest you check out the Hank Williams III song "Dick In Dixie".

TNA is full of guys that you can't differentiate or remember. Vince Russo, upon coming in to write, started looking for something to do with some of these guys to make them somehow memorable. The guy you're talking about (I think his name is "Jay Lethal," but I'm still not sure) could do a killer Macho Man impersonation, so they kinda ran with that.

By the way, I think their target is any alive human being, especially one that might buy a PPV at some point. The fact that it is wrestling on Spike suggests a young-ish male target, but I'm sure the company is happy with anybody. At one time, it was supposed to be "fans of 'wrestling' (the action and athleticism) like it used to be" and "whole families that wanted a cleaner alternative," but that kinda morphed, especially once they got Samoa Joe.

Although sometimes leaving logic behind and making numerous continuity-type errors, Vince's presence has brought enough "story" to the show to begin to tell some of the guys apart, and that has to be a positive.

As stupid-ish as his whole story has been, I now know who Eric Young is. Aside from him, I know only the former WWE guys, AJ Styles, Abyss, and Joe. I recognize that skinny, bald guy, but I can't think what his name is. It's hard work establishing talent*, and TNA definitely needed Vince or someone like him to differentiate these guys and make them somehow memorable.

(* WWE: When Vince McMahon did his last walk, I had no idea who about a third of those guys and two thirds of those divas were.)

I'm with you guys, I rarely watch wrestling anymore because it's gotten retarded.

Ah...I miss the days of when The Undertaker locked The Ultimate Warrior in a casket, or when The Road Warriors just kicked the shit out of everybody, or before Ric Flair became a joke...

<sigh> Has nothing been learned from the Imus debacle? Dave, what does this have to do with anything?
