Just two days after parting ways with her manager, Kelly Clarkson has canceled her upcoming summer tour over disappointing ticket sales, yet another sign of turmoil as she prepares to release her third album, "My December."
In a statement on her Web site, Clarkson said: "In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won't be coming out to tour this summer. The fact is that touring is just too much too soon.
"But I promise you that we're going to get back out there as soon as is humanly possible to give you a show that will be even better," she added.
In a statement released by her new representative, Paul Freundlich, it acknowledged the sales for the arena tour have been slow. The tour will be on hold and the size of it will be re-evaluated, the statement said.
"The day when she will play in sold-out arenas is, no doubt, coming, but for now her fans should look forward to seeing her in a more intimate concert environment," Gregg Perloff, CEO of concert promoter Another Planet Entertainment, said in the statement. "Kelly deserves a tremendous amount of praise for her courage in not only being a part of, but in supporting, this difficult decision."
Ya know, I wonder if her underexposure has anything to do with it. You constantly hear about the Parises and Lohans of the world but how often do you see press about Kelly (other than her business dealings). You never hear about her getting drunk at a party and screwing David Hasselhof or something, you never hear about her dressing too slutty for the xyz awards, etc. She is just underexposed.
Having said that, one lousy album can wreck your career. Look at Milli Vannilli.

Pay close attention to the character of those around you, especially those with whom you choose to be romantically involved.
Pay close attention to Clive.
Return to your roots.

Actually, Xtina is having serious issues selling out her shows too. Most major artists are. Even Gwen Stefani.
So far, only one show doesn't need help: Projekt Revolution: Linkin Park
Beyonce, OAR, even VIRGIN FEST is having problems selling. And EVERYONE here thought Virginfest would sell out.
Ticket prices are just simply too high and the acts are too disposable.
Nickelback is headlining with Staind opening and Daughtry doing mid-card. Right now, Daughtry is the biggest band on the ticket. Live Nation and IMP also are being uber-cheap and barely advertising anything. Those fools are taking out newspaper ads for the Vans Warped tour. WTG guys

Today's acts are as much (or more) about the ever-bar-raising show as (than) they are the music, and, despite lower costs for a lot of the hardware, it's becoming more expensive to do "the show" because of the sheer amount of labor required to get these things in, up, running, manned, executed, down, and out within not much more than half of a day. If they'd cut back on the production level of the show to keep prices in check, the music would have to stand more on its own, and we all know that idea just makes people start chuckling and fake-punching each other somewhere about the shoulder region.
Will this summer be the tipping point, the time of critical mass, on the era of such meaningless and disposable music?
