if i ever meet Maxwell, i will buy him a beer.

don't think i'd have had the cajones to walk out. well, maybe in the moment i would have, but i've also been "talk to" by the corner offices about spouting my opinions and reacting impulsively.

is there a company left where you can have an open opinion as an on air entertainer?

Help me understand this....

I mean, some radio guy possibly not even born during the Doors' heyday is coming at him with a paradigm almost completely based on what he "learned" from an Oliver Stone movie??? As written, I'm coming down on the side of the Doors guy, but I'll try to get the audio.

Okay, I've now heard it..........

...and I am ABSOLUTELY 100% with the Doors guy. Period.

"Maxwell" embarassed himself, and, listening to the "aftermath," he doesn't seem to have a clue. Maxwell embarassed the station, and he doesn't seem to have a clue.

"Stressful?" "Awkward?" The "awkwardness" the "talents" referred to was strictly their own! The "talents" were out of their comfort zone (or out of their league...you make that call) and were not prepared. The Doors guy was not going to suffer their youth-fueled "attitude" and foolishness and PUT...THEM...IN...THEIR...PLACE in a record time of mere seconds, and they had no idea how to deal with it. Getting absolutely pummelled, Maxwell rapidly reverted to "fight or flight" mode and fled! He literally ran from the room for the comfort of his cave (studio) where he and his toadies could try to reestablish their never-earned "self-esteem" without challenge!

And something else shocks me -- the PD going beyond mere duty and seeming to be actually defending them.

If it were I above these people (talents and PD), I would be thinking their opportunities for advancement are over and the judgment of whomever put them there is questionable. I would also think about WMMS going forward and be wondering, if its heritage is at all important to its future, if the station can continue with them involved...their credibility is now zilch. If the station's past is not part of its future (after all, WNCX is the classic rock, not WMMS), then permanently retire it and never invite older bands in again regardless of the opportunity; if the station's past is part of its future, then three or four people have to go (or be reassigned), and an on-air addressing and clarification of it might be smart.

yah, thats basically it, all the dude knew about the band he learned from the movie.... And for that interview he should be taken into an alley and issued a good beating....

i'm just going out on a limb here.... but considering MMS is a "mainstream rock" station with an excellent playlist (i might add) i'd put their target demographic at men 25-38 (ball parkin'). which would have put only about 14% of their audience even alive when morrison lived, and the oldest of the target demo would have been 2 years old (highly doubtful they could remember the "true" jim)... so the only thing most of Maxwell's listeners have to go on is hear-say and accounts of the people closest to Jim before he died. So if you're going to have the old bastards on at all, you might as well bring it around to the guy that was the heart and soul of the band in the first place. If they're too bitter to talk about it, and tired of living in Jim's dead shadow for 35 years, 1 month, and a couple weeks, they shouldn't have agreed to the interview in the first place. those guys played the Norva here last weekend (i think)... they didn't even sell the place out (holds 1500-2000).... tells me they need all the help they can get from us low life insensative radio maggots.

soapbox going cheap.... should i call that damn tradin' post show?

haven't heard the audio yet... but by going on what i picked out of the article i'll stand behind my post... til i change my mind

MMS targets 25-34 males and, sadly, is a shadow of its former glory days self. Maxwell is probably the best talent left on the station and ordinarily is quite good. Of course I haven't listened to him in a couple years so my opinion is old.
MMS used to be such a great radio station, but alas, the world has changed.
