WVU radio deal is rare

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

WVU radio deal is rare

Post by Lester »

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The longer West Virginia University must wait to complete a proposed multimedia partnership with IMG College, the more likely another obstacle could be thrown into its path by the party responsible for the delay.

I was pretty deeply entrenched on the WVRC side until I read that. Discussion? (With points other than "RAY-SEE SUCKZZ!")

I've heard that Raese will delay everything long enough to get another season of WVU football/basketball, then IMG will take over.

Although I think the potential revenues of the radio network are exaggerated. I was involved in networking OSU basketball back in the seventies--was a tough sell as few advertisers were interested in covering all of Ohio.
Bits and pieces (Cleveland, or Columbus or Cincinnati) but not the state. Same situation exists in WV: eastern panhandle is DC market, Wheeling part of Pittsburgh, leaving the the tiny Parkersburg, Beckley and Bluefield markets, the Frankenstein market of Morgantown/Fairmont/Clarksburg, and the only "large" market in the state-- Charleston/Huntington. Not enough population to justify the numbers thrown about in the article.

Still, not a bad deal for FREE.
