All we are saying...

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

John Lennon Was a Reagan-Loving Conservative, Former Assistant Says
In a new documentary, it is revealed by John Lennon's last personal assistant that the late Beatle wasn't quite as radical as his fans think. The Toronto Sun reports that Fred Seaman, Lennon's assistant from 1979 until the time of his death in 1980, heard the singer speak fondly of then-president Ronald Reagan.

I'll beat the rest of you to the punch. Reagan didn't become president until after Lennon's death, right?

Maybe Lennon was a fan of "Bedtime for Bonzo" or other Reagan movies.

"He'd met Reagan back, I think, in the '70s at some sporting event ... Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that ... He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me"

The above quote that has the Rightwing media machine working overtime is from Fred Seaman. He was a personal assistant to John and Yoko at the Dakota in the late seventies...

He was also the same guy who was found guilty of stealing John Lennon’s personal belongings, including his diaries, after Lennon had been killed.

Info supplied by the link below has been supported to some degree by multiple sources:

John Lennon
Ex-Beatle and erstwhile 1960s icon
meets
Ronald Reagan
Ex-actor and future 1980s icon

The outgoing former Mop Top met the outgoing California governor on December 9, 1974 during halftime of a Monday Night Football game between the Washington Redskins and the Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Lennon was in town to promote his recently released album, Walls and Bridges, while Reagan was about to turn over the keys to the mansion to Governor-elect Jerry Brown after eight years in Sacramento. Play-by-play man Frank Gifford invited Reagan—an old friend from his movie days—to drop by the Monday Night Football booth, and was pleasantly surprised when Lennon accepted an invitation for the same night. Both men were slated for halftime interviews. “Gifford, you take the governor and I’ll take the Beatle,” acerbic commentator Howard Cosell informed Gifford shortly before the end of the second quarter. While the two guests waited to go on the air, Reagan put an arm around Lennon and attempted to explain the rules of American football. Lennon must have been a quick study, because in the ensuing on-air exchange with Cosell he showed a keen grasp of the differences between the U.S. game and English rugby. The evening’s only loser—besides the Rams, who were throttled by the Redskins 23-17—was color commentator Alex Karras, who complained to Cosell that he had been pushed out of the booth and into the men’s room to make room for Lennon and Reagan. Eerily enough, it was six years later—almost to the day—that Cosell would report Lennon’s murder to the nation live on another Monday Night Football telecast. Ronald Regan went on to become president of the United States and survive his own assassination attempt in March of 1981.

So it IS plausible according to all of this stuff above. But...

John Lennon: NOT a Closet Republican
Jon Wiener | June 29, 2011

A guy named Fred Seaman is all over the conservative blogs today for a new documentary in which he claims that John Lennon was “a closet Republican” at the time he was shot. This seems unlikely.

First of all, who is Fred Seaman? He’d been a personal assistant to John and Yoko at the Dakota in the late seventies, but he’s also a convicted criminal. He was found guilty of stealing John Lennon’s personal belongings, including his diaries, after Lennon had been killed. He was sentenced to five years probation.

You might say that weakens his credibility.

What exactly were Lennon’s political views at the end of 1980? Late that November, Lennon spoke out on behalf of striking workers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. (The story is told in my book Come Together: John Lennon in His Time.) The strike was against Japan Foods Corporation, a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational Kikkoman, best known for its soy sauce. The US workers, primarily Japanese, were members of the Teamsters. In LA and San Francisco, they went on strike for higher wages. The shop steward of the LA local, Shinya Ono, persuaded John and Yoko to make a public statement addressed to the striking workers:

“We are with you in spirit.… In this beautiful country where democracy is the very foundation of its constitution, it is sad that we have to still fight for equal rights and equal pay for the citizens. Boycott it must be, if it is the only way to bring justice and restore the dignity of the constitution for the sake of all citizens of the US and their children.

“Peace and love, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. New York City, December, 1980.”

That was Lennon’s last written political statement. It doesn’t seem to be the work of a “closet Republican.”

Seaman says Lennon told him he was disillusioned with Jimmy Carter in 1980. Lots of people on the left were disillusioned with Jimmy Carter in 1980, and for good reasons. That didn't make you a Republican, closeted or otherwise.

In what turned out to be Lennon’s last interview, with RKO radio the afternoon of the day he was shot, he talked about “the opening up of the sixties.” He said “Maybe in the sixties we were naïve and like children and later everyone when back to their rooms and said, ‘we didn’t get a wonderful world of flowers and peace.… the world is a nasty horrible place because it didn’t give use everything we cried for.’ Right? Crying for it wasn’t enough.

“The thing the sixties did was show us the possibility and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn’t the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility.”

That interview was his last. Six hours later he was killed.

Fred Seaman tried to cash in on his Lennon connection with an earlier book, published twenty years ago. That one has been forgotten. This story will be too.

I believe it's actually "everything is permitted", but I'm not positive. Used to sing that song in a punk band called The Urge in Richmond in 1981-82.
And it's Mai Pang.

Compared to modern standards, Reagan falls into the category of RINO (Republican In Name Only.) It does not shock me that John Lennon would fall into a category of being a Reagan supporter.

What I can't feature is why anyone cares about this. That goes for those who want Lennon to be a Reagan supporter and those who want anything but that.

Lennon was a semi-talented hack, patchouly stank, hippie, self important, douchebag who wrote horseshit songs with banal and stupid lyrics. People should be mad at him for that, not because he liked or disliked Reagan.

Much like Ohio State, Fuck The Beatles.

Also, at last check, both Reagan and Lennon were still dead.

They both probably voted democrat in Lincoln County in 2008.

I will end this post with some of those meaningful Beatles lyrics...

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Hey Jude.

(Please note, I didn't go on with those genius words for 6 hours like they did)

Reagan was not perfect, but at least he inspired Americans to work together to pull the country out of the pits of despair. He also never apologized for America.

Contrast that with the guy in there now whose only hope of being re-elected is to race bait and agitate class warfare among us in the midst of a 3-year long shitty economy with no end in sight... He also can't find a microphone fast enough to apologize to the world for America's past sins.

Reagan was "The Great Communicator".

Have you thought about how communication has changed in the last 10 years.

- Gen - X and younger people use Twitter and SMS to communicate which has a 140/160 character limit.
- Email has been leveraged to remove the "memorandum" to communicate changes in the office.
- Instant Messaging programs have cut the use of formal sentences down to phrases with few words.

We will never have a commander-in-chief that can give a speech like Ronald Reagan because society has evolved. Obama took the risk of adjusting his 2008 campaign to appeal to the younger demographic and encourage them to vote. The strategy worked.
The first step in a successful revolution is to defeat all competing revolutionaries.

LIke many people have said: I felt "safe" under the leadership of GWB.

I did not feel safe from outside enemies under Bill Clinton.

I do not feel safe from outside OR INSIDE enemies under Barrack Obama.

But I do admit he IS God's man for the hour, because He would not let America be brought to it's knees under a good to great leader. Obama wins in 2012 or an attack that makes 9/11 look like a Sunday school picnic occurs before then...
