TV weather discrepancies

An avid weather watcher over the years, I've always noticed that WSAZ and WCHS TV are usually very close in their forecast temperatures. WOWK is usually different by at least 5 degrees on the average.

This morning however WCHS and WSAZ had a huge discrepancy for this coming weekends high temp. WCHS claimed a warmup of 50 degrees for both Saturday and Sunday, while WSAZ said it would be 35 degrees. ( I didnt check WOWK's forecast temps)

This would make for a good office betting pool.

One time when the NWS was at Yeager Airport, they had an open house. Among all the
computers and radar equipment, there was a file cabinet with a dart board on top. It
was sectioned off into sunny,rain, snow, cloudy, etc. Sometimes you just wonder...

My wife got her license as a private pilot on 11/11. During her training, before each flight she had to call a toll-free number for a weather briefing from the United States Flight Service Station. Their forecasts for cloud cover (including cloud ceiling height) and winds are often not very good at all.

I was always told the secret to doing weather (on radio) was to vary it by a degree or two from the actual. Such as "it's 17 degrees in Ashland, 16 degrees in downtown Huntington". Reading the weather was one of my tasks during my 6 glorious months of doing Saturday mornings on WRVC.

I've always wanted someone to parody that conventional method and call it "85 degrees in Ashland, 15 degrees in Huntington" or some other such foolishness

As of this morning:

WSAZ says 45 degree Saturday.... while WCHS says 51. Time for Tony to retire?

As someone who once did tv weather--(NOT a meterologist)--I was given tricks of the trade by some old timers.

Never have the temp on the map be identical even if they are, change 'em up a degree or two.

Always use the 50 percent rain or snow chance if you aren't sure.

The Humidity can never be 100 percent--if it is--then it's RAINING.

Elkins/Terra Alta is always the coldest spot on the map, but Glady is always colder than they are. BUT Glady has no reporting station!

Aviation forecasts are for the WORST expected condition during the forecast period. Briefers never seem to catch onto that point, so I always look at the last 3 or 4 METAR reports and compare them to the TAF (she'll know what I'm talking about). Anymore, just looking at the weather channel should keep a private pilot from blundering into an inadvertent IMC encounter where the typical lifespan is on the order of 120 seconds.

This is the best site to see what the forecasts are for HTS. You can select anywhere else there's a TAF point from the menus.

The Hunidity can only be 100% in FOG and that would be dense fog. Woke up one morning to 4 inches of partly cloudy. I think the dart board methode is the most accurate. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all
