Since no one has started the topic yet, I will.

The big snow.

I understand the people most affected by it were people trapped on the WV Turnpike. They were there so long that the National Guard had to be sent-in with food and water and fuel. The governor called a state of emergency.

Maj. Mike Cadle, spokesman for the West Virginia National Guard, said Guard members were using Humvees on Saturday morning to take food and water to people stuck on the Turnpike. Some of them, he said, had been there since the storm hit Friday evening.

This was an odd snow since the temperature hovered at 37-38 degrees from start to finish here in Charleston. It was one of the few times that I havent had to use my generator... yet.

Actually, the day was little different than any other day around here, other than on the hill where I live, we wound up with 11 inches of snow. Saw this coming back in early Nov by the way the birds at my feeders have been acting.

Happened to flip around to the Weather Channel earlier today and they had a woman on the phone who said she'd been stranded on the WV turnpike for the last 20 hours. News here was reporting I-77 closed at the VA/NC border.
Had about 6 inches at my house in Winston Salem. My sister in Baltimore was at a foot and still snowing early this afternoon.

Well, I should be at my old KY home with my fiance at my side, but the storm left us stranded at her place just outside of Valley Forge. It was supposed to be abour 4-6 inches, but I have measured around 10-12" in the corner of Philly. Points due south and east got much more snow. Points due north and west go much less.

We will head out tomorrow. Too much snow this morning to head out today.

Probably about 18 where I am. Began Friday afternoon as all snow.

My Corolla got stuck about 100 feet from where I was going on late Friday night...on a downhill slope of all places. The snow was so deep that the bumper was pushing the snow underneath the car to the point that I was riding up on it. Took two guys to dig me out and push me in the lot.

I'm just now digging out to where I can ride around on the main roads.

Been wearing the same clothes for three days because I'm snowed out of my house. Wasn't expecting to camp for a weekend. Feeling a little groddy now, but it could be worse.

Anyway, give some props to WVDOT for staying up on clearing the roads. The main drags are pretty much clear now.



BTW, Houston is sunny and 60 degrees.

I had 7 here in High Point...so funny how people down here freak out over snow. I had to pick up my girlfriend from work after I got off the air...



That's the Food Lion by the house...Morgan was pissed, because there only one loaf left, and it was pumpernickel. Who in the hell doesn't have something in the house to eat...and more importantly, why do you want to wait until all hell breaks loose to get groceries?

And before you point at me for doing the same thing, this was an essential Jerry Waters moment...I wanted to see what was left and take pictures.

We rolled up 16 inches of snow before it was all over. Here along the Potomac 40 miles south of DC, the snow mixed with icy pellets from time to time, otherwise we would have easily had 20 inches. Temps have hovered in the mid 20's to 30 the whole time until this morning - 18 right now.

Parkersburg got probably no more than 3 inches. Wood County schools weren't so much as delayed on Monday.
