I knew this deal was supposed to have happened over a year ago, but I really thought the "Baconator" and Vanilla Frosty were big enough poison pills to keep Peltz from acquiring the third largest hamburger chain.

Wendy's is a great place. I just hope they don't downsize their menu. Or add the Arby's prices to it.

Yes, it can be mean. I am currently working at a company that is in the midst of a control battle with a group of potential investors trying to throw out our CEO and several board members at the annual meeting in a couple of weeks.

A return to the "heritage of Dave Thomas" was promised by the new leaders of Wendy's International during a conference call with investors and analysts (Wednesday). They also said better financial results for company-owned Wendy's stores are on the way. It was the first such communication since Dublin-based Wendy's agreed to be purchased by Triarc Cos., parent of Arby's.

Two Triarc executives, Chief Executive Officer Roland Smith and Chief Financial Officer Steve Hare...hinted at goals, mentioning breakfast and snacks as areas of focus at Wendy's. Expansion could be ahead for Arby's, they said, noting that there are many "underpenetrated" markets domestically. International expansion is possible for both chains. In addition, Smith promised that the combined company will return to the quality traditions of its founder and quickly move to reconnect with customers through its marketing. Poor marketing has been blamed for much of Wendy's recent struggles.

The chains will retain their headquarters - Dublin for Wendy's and Atlanta for Arby's. A support center will be created in Atlanta to "manage all public-company responsibilities and other shared services," Hare said. Layoffs are expected, but no details have been given about the number and location of workers whose jobs will be eliminated.

Um...Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, for starters. The same old thing in cities full of new things (add retarded marketing) equals struggle.
