WSAZ on air mistakes

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

I guess WSAZ does not have HD effects or grafx that would allow a crawl on the NBC HD football game.
(they kept switching back and forth to SD trying to explain where wheel of fortune was.)
Actually they were better that WQCW, who didnt get the Pittsburgh vs Caroling game till late.

Market leader, indeed.

Yeah... My guess is they have a NBC satellite receiver that pipes in an SDI signal. They must have a dual position switch to allow a switch between the control room and piping the SDI signal directly into the exciter with nothing down stream. When the station goes to a local break, they throw the studio "online" and blast their money makers and then throw the switch back to the SDI signal when the local break is done.

This will likely be what all the local stations will have to do until a full SDI (that is to say, fully HD and digital) control room is built.

Big fire in Milton.
WSAZ had the only early pictures via e-reporter.
WSAZ managed to cover up the action part of the pictures with grafx banner.
They love their grafx.

Newsblues reports Gray TV stock doen 80% this year.
Sounds like it is time for cuts to pump the stock.
In other news the CEO retired and appointed his son-in -law to the post.
I am confident that he was the best qualified for the job.

WSAZ had the wrong video on the news open tonight.
Is this a hard thing to do?
All you have to do is put things in the correct order on a computer screen, is that right?

Genlock,

Your keen observations made me watch WSAZ news this past weekend.
You are right.
Two youthful Ken dolls (the anchor and weather boy) tripping over written copy.
The hundred dollar moussed hair styling and bleached smiles didn't fix the core product.
A few miscued graphics and news video clips.
Lots of entertainment news and fluff sprinkled between car wrecks and police blotter reports.
Whatever happened to those hardcore Bos Johnson days?

Market leader, indeed.

Perhaps we can blame some of the errors on the possibility that they're reading the H-D word-for-word.

Is WSAZ tower cam out of focus.
It used to be very sharp.
Well, sharper than WOWK's tower cam.

I guess nobody noticed it during the mike check.

Heard someone talking under an intro that played at 11:22... then under the next story, someone was clearing their throat.

Pitiful.

The only mistake WSAZ makes is not having Jessica on every newscast and every story within the newscast (including sports and weather). No offense to other talent at WSAZ. You can be on there too. I'm not saying you shouldn't be included, I'm just saying she should be included in all of it.

Ha. This post should score me some major pre-Valentine's Day points. I've been in the doghouse for a little while.

Yeah, but the make-up sex would be fun!

I'm talking about with Jessica, not with Jay....

WSAZ seems to have trouble finding the UK basketball game
on the satellite.
Sat for a minute on bars and audio noise.
Sat for another minute on trouble graphic.
Wait, they may have found it.
Wonder what the market leader was doing during the NBC Nightly News
that was so important that the next program was ignored.
Lunch? Missed spots cause indigestion. Tums for the tummy.

WSAZ started the 5pm news with a long cooking segment with Bill Murray.
No news today, no weather, nothing but cooking?
The second story is a valentines day segment.
Then weather at 5:04.
Power outage story. No video just statistics and wire copy.

I wonder why they would do this?

You must not watch WSAZ as much as you let on. They often lead the 5 pm with lighter segments on Fridays.
Have you not seen "Bill's Grill" in the summer?
Chill out dude...there's always the 6 pm for you to catch up on your local murders, drug busts, rapes and robberies. No need to see it twice.
