HAMLIN -- The city of Hamlin in Lincoln County is now left with only one police officer to patrol the streets.
Hamlin City Council voted unanimously Monday to terminate Officer J.D. Scites, 20, for actions they're calling unbecoming of an officer.
Published reports indicate Scites is being charged with two counts of sexual assault involving minors.
Mayor Brian Barrett said even if the charges are dropped or if Scites is found innocent, the damage has already been done.
"It is apparently the belief of the town that he has damaged his reputation at this point to where he would be unable to represent the town in that capacity," Barrett said.
Barrett says now only one officer remains and action will be taken to find a replacement for Scites.
Scites father, J.H.Scites, is a Captain for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
