I advocate getting rid of the noncommercial "educational" broadcast band entirely and converting all existing stations there into commercial ones EXCEPT ones that are actually EDUCATIONAL stations. As in stations that train broadcasters, such as WMUL. About the only role students get at taxwastes like 89.1 is possibly sweeping the floor.
Government has no place in broadcasting in a free country.

Re: Kindred to kill WRVC-FM
Screw you guys.
Get your asses above 92.1.
I like NPR, PRI, ect.
Stop bitching about the dial. The non-comm. band is still available to educational operations that want the bandwidth. (...a hell of a lot more room than the commercial band).
Send a note with your tax-returns outlining the specific programs you want YOUR money to fund.
(P.S. You think WMUL went on-the-air without a dime of taxpayer money?)

If there wasn't a non-comm band, I suspect that there would be far fewer college radio stations out there...

Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

No argument. I'd rather hear commercials than those all-day beg-a-thons.Mike wrote:I advocate getting rid of the noncommercial "educational" broadcast band entirely and converting all existing stations there into commercial ones EXCEPT ones that are actually EDUCATIONAL stations. Huh? Voice of America? Radio Free Europe?Government has no place in broadcasting in a free country.
Two examples of "government broadcasting" at its finest.

I've thought of that too.AmpedNow wrote:It would be really funny if Southern Com in Beckley ever tries to move WAXS to Mossy with their other signals.
KD8JEB can be, (and has been) bought on occasion.
