Skeeter Dodd, who was general manager and on-air at WKLC in the 1970s, died on April 9. Here is his obituary.

DODD, Franklin D. "Skeeter"Age 74 of Hendersonville, passed away at his home on April 9, 2012. He was the son of the late Owen F. and Edith M. Dodd. Skeeter is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cathy; sons, Mark (Kathy), Scott (Dot) and Nick (Tori); daughters, Kim (Rob) Hein and Lisa (Todd) Brachey; seven grandchildren, Beth, Scott, Sarah, Travis, Emily, AJ and Will; seven great-children; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving in-laws and friends. Visitation will be Saturday, April 14th from 9-11 a.m., at Bluegrass Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN, with a Memorial service immediately following. I only met Skeeter once, but found him to be very kind and very professional. Gary Miller and I were teenage country jocks at WWHY, and Skeeter invited us to be his guests at a show he was promoting at the South Charleston Community Center, featuring some amazingly big names. We met George Jones and Tammy Wynette...Don Gibson...and we even got to visit Carl Butler and Pearl ("Don't Let Me Cross Over") for an interview in their tour bus!

I met Skeeter a few times when he was running WRDS-AM in South Charleston. Unusual guy to say the least. He had a "Grandpa" character that he incorporated into his show.

Strangely, I've been in Tennessee for 15 years and never ran into him here.

WSCW is now owned by Lynn Martin's company, with a classic country format. Essentially, playing the same tunes that Skeeter played!

I worked for Skeeter in 1978 when he ran WKLC-FM in St. Albans. The station was all country then. The AM ran religous programming (I think).

Last time I saw Skeeter was on the street in Nashville October 20, 1978. I remember that date well because country singer Mel Street had just committed suiside and we were discussing it.

Skeeter brought me to St. Albans from Ashland where I had just been let go from WTCR. I worked for him for a few months until a thunderstorm tok out the transmitter's exciter. The owner at the time was unsure if he was going to put the $$ back into fixing it. So, I moved on to WCAW in Charleston.

I remember Skeeter getting a gig with the then WJRB in Nashville. I remember he called the station owner, Max Sanders, and told him how cool it was to have a Rolls Royce as a station news vehicle. Sanders hired Skeeter for an on-air gig.

Last thing I ever heard about him was that he was working for a jingle company in Nashville.

Sure wish there were some airchecks of his work around, he was a real personality. My condolences to his family.

I was working at WKLC my senior year in high school when Bob Entley left in May, 1974. Skeeter was hired as Gm; he later hired my dad as sales manager and my mom worked pt doing the books replacing Bob's brother Bill; Even my brothers Brad and Bart worked briefly doing some janitorial stuff in the evening while mom was doing the books thru the end of 1974. While I was away at Ohio State ( the univerity, not the penitentary ) Skeeter was very involved with the Kanwha Co. Text Book controversy- he was on an NBC news special about it. When the FM transmitter died in 1978, Matt Gillian flew out to Collins Radio and drove the new transmitter back ( an 831-G2, one of several sold by Collins in the Kanawha valley around that time, including WQBE and WV Public Radio) I saw Skeeter once while Ive been in Nashville; I missed the obit and sorry to hear about it- condolences to Cathy- I remember when they were married.
