I think with this latest storm, Spencer Adkins and Bryan Hughes are doing the best in the region with keeping folks informed. I love their new technology and constant updates over the past two days.

Note I am listening to this crap over the phone in Valley Forge and watching the sweeps on the NOAA web site.

apparently you are only watching 13. WSAZ has been doing wall to wall coverage. All 3 meteorologists on deck plus multiple live shots from areas hardest hit. Hands down winner.

WSAZ was still on news when WOWK switched over to weather. I hadn't switched back since. Now that I checked, WSAZ is doing very good also. On 13 I wish April Kaull would stay out of the shots.

Storm coverage ratings

1. WSAZ=fluid coverage from all three mets...good updates from Jessica and Tim did a nice phoner from the field. Total great coverage from reporters, mets and anchors. Tony A plus

2. WOWK-good coverage from relatively new mets...previous post about April is right...stepping on Spencer way to much. Decent additional info from reporters. Bray...kick in some cash so April can get her roots done. Spencer-B plus/A minus

3. WCHS-WTF??? Where are their anchors? Couple of live hits from somewhere in Charleston, but that's the extent of their news team in this event. Jim-D minus, Doug B plus

All in all, very disappointed in the lack of news presence in this major event...where is the leadership? Ralston is the only anchor who could be called a "command" anchor, although to be fair, Tim jumped in a car and went out to cover the story. April tried, but she just doesn't project any credibility, but again, at least she was on the set giving information.

Jessica has done a great job. She has Facebook fully covered for anyone without power along with intense on-air coverage.

The biggest blunder from last evening was the late alerts from the NWS. It was really sad that the tornadic cell that went through Old Town/Argillite KY was not given a new set of warnings as it passed through Ashland, KY. The alert came after that cell had crossed into Lawrence Co. OH. In fact, it was a warning from a storm chaser 5:47 pm that triggered an alarm on my phone to call Mom and tell her. The NWS posted a message that was so long and filled with crap that I did not know that there was a circular rotation within 10 miles of my house in KY.

Kudos to Spencer and Bryan for trying to logically report the mess from the National Weather Service. Jessica also did a great job with the coverage as well. I would have checked out social media (Twitter/Facebook) but I was too busy watching the cell that dropped a second tornado in West Liberty. I did not relax until I had confirmation that puppy crossed into Wayne Co. at Burnaugh, KY. When I learned that at 7:00pm, I started relaxing. The part that bothered me was that cell did not seem to get good coverage from WSAZ or WOWK until it crossed into Wayne Co.

Considering the crap information from the NWS, WOWK and WSAZ did just fine. Except for that squawky bird April that was stepping all over Spencer. And that voice was really shrill when you heard it compressed on the other side of a phone. My ears are still ringing.

Let's pour some salt into wounds and point out there is no local coverage of this event last night in the Ashland Daily Insufficient. That is the big heaping pile of fail. The Herald Disgrace did have one article that covered the damage in Lawrence Co, KY, East Lynn and the rest of Wayne Co.

I noticed on 13 that some of the grafx were of very low resolution.
mainly those box lists of where the storm will be and when.
I suppose that the lure of using old analog stuff was so great that
the mothership will be a mixed type facility. Converting back and
forth from one format to another. In fairness, it looked sort of like
the storm caught them in the middle of a move. I noticed the back of
computers and all sorts of non-finished details. Probably April was trying
to hold it all together and the Mets were doing their thing. My major
complaint was the low resolution pix and grafx, I can always turn the
sound down to avoid April.

all of our home's TV is now internet streaming...and none of the Charleston/Huntington stations got a passing grade...maybe a D minus for WSAZ, which cut its streaming off at 6:30. None of the Cincinnati stations got better than a C minus. The BEST online coverage was from WHAS in Louisville...followed closely by WKYT and WYMT. As for the late word on the warnings affecting Argillite and Naples, that was on WUGO at 6...but they were just getting to mentioning it on WSAZ twenty minutes later. Don't blame the weather service.

by the way, WKYT is still broadcasting wall-to-wall coverage of relief efforts and damage reports all this morning (it's 10:41 on Saturday as i type this). it's excellent. and it's interesting that yesterday was T G Shuck's last day as chief meteorologist at WKYT. talk about going out with a bang!!!

I think it was because the weather Gfx are in HD and were being shot and aired in SD. Hopefully it'll look better after the move.

I think both stations did fine. However, I pay for High Def. So, I'm always going to watch High Def. Sorry, 13.
