National news stories that make me gag

The story of the Black kid that was supposedly "beaten" by a gang of 7 (both Black & White) made all the national news outlets and then the kid went-on to appear on several national TV talk shows.

I watched the video several times and here's what I saw.

1... The kid was wearing heavy winter clothing and so he didn't have a scratch on him the following day.

2.. The video shows the bully's pulling him through the snow on the sidewalk, placing him in a tree, then hanging him from a fence by his jacket. (Big deal, we did that to our good friends, never mind anyone else)

3.. A few punches and maybe kicks were made to the kid when he was down. But it appears that they were playing more than actually attacking, not really hurting him. ( Hence no bruises anywhere on his body)

The national media has made a federal case out of this as though the 7 thugs were trying to kill the kid. Fact is that had they wanted to, they could have easily. I'm not condoning their actions. The "boys will be boys" saying might have been stretched here a bit, but for Gods sake, this was SO blown out of proportion that it's trumped-up stories like this that make's me continue to not trust one damned thing the media tells me.

Look, I have seen video on the news of kids getting seriously beat up. That news was deserved. This wasn't.

news, local or national is just to give a person a idea of whats going on in the counrty or world. i take news as as a paid advertisement. i form my own opinions after that.

I'm with Cool.

All I remember are two things:

1. This type of thing was commonplace back in the day.

2. And back in that day there was less than three hours news that needed to be reported on a daily basis.

True, Scott. But, there were lots of things "back in the day" that were accepted, which by today's standards are considered worthy of more attention than they used to get.
