WVU get's 12 million dollars worth of software for free

Can anyone explain to me how SOFTWARE could possibly cost almost 12 million dollars ? Sell a couple of these bad boys and retire!

WVU receives $11.8M worth of geology software

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University is getting $11.8 million worth of software for its Department of Geology and Geography.

WVU says the software is being provided by Landmark Graphics Corp. of Houston. The school announced the grant Tuesday. Geology professor Tom Wilson says the grant is critical to energy-related research and teaching.

I ate dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Winona Lake, IN in 2001 with a guy whose "quota" for sales for the year was "1". He said he had traveled to Buenos Aires, London, Australia, Spain and to at least seven major U. S. cities that year and had sold his "1". Now if he sold his second, he was in line for a "million dollar bonus"...which he HAD hit a couple of times out of the past five to ten years or so. What did he sell? Sony Jumbroton systems for stadiums and arenas.

This thread made me think of that for some reason.
