What old song was written by a Brit, played by a Dane, and made #2 on the American Pop Charts?

I don't think you misspelled Taylor Dane. And it probably wasn't a Great Dane barking on "Who Let the Dogs Out." I am going to guess that you might mean Victor Borge. I got to see him here in Charleston years ago with the symphony orchestra. Don't know what song it would be or if he even made the charts, but with his humor and variety of styles, anything is possible.

Victor Borge on our Pop chart? Mmmm... no. Hint: This song made the charts somewhere in the 60s.

Was thinking Alley Cat by Bent Fabric (which is about the only hit I know of by a Danish artist) but the various usual sources say he wrote that as well as performed it. Was #2 on the AC chart in 1962.

The answer might surprise you, as it's the LAST song you'd ever dream of two foreigners involved with.

The song was "Apache". Jerry Lordan of London came up with the tune.

The title "Apache" reflects the source of Lordan's inspiration: the 1954 American western film Apache.

In North America, the song is identified with Jørgen Ingmann, a jazz guitarist from Denmark. In 1961, Ingmann produced a cover version that, billed to "Jørgen Ingmann and His Guitar," made number two on the US pop chart, and number one on Canada's CHUM Chart.

OOH close but no. This should give it away. It was ironicaly the biggest hit of his career. Early 70's. Casey Kasem asked a question very similar on AT40 that year.

GIVE THAT MAN A CIGAR !

Yes, Sammy Davis, Jr and "The Candy Man". From the movie "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory". Both 1972.
He hated the song but was told something like 'do it or be in breach' as there was one song left on his contract. What he didn't know was the back music had been prepaired with him in mind and was all set for him to record. His biggest and last hit, went to #1.

And somehow that horrible lounge lizard song wound up on the charts, and I had to suffer through it for weeks. I thought... "who's buying this crap"? :?

On the Country side....

What 70's Country song was (in some cases) physicaly removed from radio stations with the warning "play it and pay !" because it mentioned a real company in the lyrics? As far as I know only the writer sings it now....still banned by court order ?

This is easy for anyone alive then. :D
