WMTD to flip to sports April 5

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

WMTD to flip to sports April 5

Post by Mr. Jones »

Radio-Info:
Starting April 5, “The River” will be dropped in favor of “ESPN Radio 102.3.” The move by Southern Communications-owned WMTD-FM (licensed to Hinton, West Virginia) has been in the works for some time. WMTD will carry ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning, Colin Cowherd and The Scott Van Pelt Show, but will have local sports updates, cover local high school and college sports, minor league baseball’s Princeton Rays along with NASCAR. Station PD Jesse Dawson tells the Register-Herald newspaper, “Local sports do not get (broadcast) like they need to.”

...I am surprised that the Southern group did not put WWNR News on that frequency as there is not a 24/7 news outlet on FM in the lower part of the state.... more money to be made in Sports vs producing local news combined with national feeds??

Apparently the flip was made yesterday.

And the migration of talk and sports to FM continues...

It is inevitable that news/talk will be the last terrestrial radio format. With FM music stations sounding worse than their satellite radio competition (and offering far fewer choices) FM music radio is as doomed today as AM music radio was in 1980.
