The Williamson Drug Bust

At the top of the local news this day:

WILLIAMSON – Three law enforcement agencies closed a local clinic Tuesday, but few details are being released.

The West Virginia State Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI executed a federal search warrant at the Wellness Center on 3rd Avenue. Dr. Katherine Hoover serves as the primary physician at the clinic.


I have a doctor friend whom this "clinic" tried to hire. My doctor friend says there was no way in hell that she would ever work down there, and that it was just a matter of time...

However, the really interesting thing is the PAPER TRAIL that Dr Katherine Hoover has left in her wake. How in the world she thought she could get away with doing what she was accused of doing is beyond me:


Among other things, in a case that went before the WV Supreme Court in 2004:

Dr. Hoover was licensed to practice medicine in West Virginia in 1978. On May 13, 1996, the Board issued a complaint and notice of hearing (hereinafter referred to as “complaint”) against Dr. Hoover. (See footnote 1) The complaint alleged that Dr. Hoover asked a seventeen-year-old female patient, who was seeking gynecological care, whether the patient and any of her girlfriends would be willing to come to Dr. Hoover's home and have sex with her teenage son. http://www.state.wv.us/WVSCA/docs/spring04/31576.htm

A physician who nearly did lose her license is Dr. Katherine Hoover, formerly of Key West, Florida. In December 1993, Hoover got into trouble with Florida authorities because she had treated the chronic pain of seven of her 15,000 patients with narcotics. A pain specialist testified at her 1995 hearing that she was practicing within accepted guidelines. But the review board censured her anyway--a decision that was reversed on appeal. Says Hoover, who now practices in West Virginia: "There is a belief that anyone who prescribes narcotics is a bad doctor."

This just another drop in the bucket. If actually known, the gross pill trade proffit (without the cash crop of MJ) of Logan, Mingo, Wyoming, and Pike counties would exceed the gross revenue of both West Virginia and Kentucky! And that's no joke.
