Personally, I don't care if he lives or dies. I've only listened to him twice (didn't even make it through a significant portion of the "show") and I think he's a pompous jackass. He doesn't interest me because I find other things to listen to between noon and three (and for that matter, from 9a-6p, because my view of all three of the most common hosts in that block is the same).

Besides, I love to see "the man" fall. It's fun watercooler talk.

The fact that we have to use the words "Talent" and "Limbaugh" in the same sentence says all that we need to know about the state of radio in this day and age.. Limbaugh is nothing more than a whore for the rightwing.. Plain and simple... No talent necessary.. Just find out what the rightwing/big corp stance is, then attempt to brainwash the masses.. Whenever someone tries to defend rightwing radio or rightwing tv they always bring up the ratings.. Nothing new here either... Rightwing extremists used to bring up the "popularity" of Father Caughlin to the same ends... Tokyo Rose had alot of listeners as well..

I think Limbaugh is enormously talented even though I despise his message. And it's funny Stern was mentioned in the thread also, because Limbaugh is basically a Stern derivative, with political shock substituted for sexual shock. You can hear the similarities in approach whenever you listen, though the content is quite different.
Though his ratings have been deteriorating in recent years he still does well in many markets. Part of his genius has been to stay out of drive time, thus never having to compete against Stern or Imus or any of the many dominant morning shows in big cities.
Wouldn't it have been interesting to see Limbaugh go up against Stern and Imus in the 90's when both were on in NYC? Along with Scott Shannon and some of the other NYC morning shows?
One other thing to remember about Limbaugh's show is that it is precisely that, a show. His lifestyle indicates that he doesn't believe half of what he spouts on air. He's just like us, trying to get numbers. We'll say whatever we need to say to get them.

PS. what are the odds his hospital trip was all a stunt to get some pub for the big Rush Radio rollout Monday on many Clear Channel fms?
