HUNTINGTON —The first baby of the year arrived at St. Mary’s Medical Center at 12:07 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2010.

The new baby boy is Keegan Lee, born a healthy 8 pounds, 3 ounces and 21 inches long. Mom, Nicole Bowen, and dad, Drake Kinzel, are doing fine.

They said Keegan wasn't due until Jan. 11, but contractions started Thursday afternoon. When contractions went from 13 minutes apart to 4 minutes apart, Bowen and Kinzel went to the hospital.

They weren't concerned if their new baby was born at the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010. But they said it was a pretty cool experience.

"It was a trip watching the ball drop (on television), then having a baby," said Kinzel, who is a Marshall University student.

The whole clan hopes to catch up on some sleep, but life, they said, is different now that a little piece of fame has been thrust upon them.

"We have a little celebrity," Bowen said. "You're famous, little man."

It's hard to remember a time when the New Year's Baby wasn't born out of wedlock (poor thing).
