The Wild, Wooly WSAZ Exodus
WSAZ has announced that Home and Garden Expert John Marra will be the new anchor for NewsChannel 3 at Noon, 6 and 11. He had better plan on it because there probably won't be anyone else left to do it.
In the past few weeks Will Jones, Penny Moss and Chris Olson have announed their departure. Olson is bailing for Kansas to see if Dorothy is still hanging around there. The sad part is - none of them will be replaced. Before long, Yohe may be a One Man Reporting Band.

Chris Olsen was a mistake and will be no loss.
I don't know Will Jones.
They are lucky there are any jobs available anywhere for news types.
John Marra already gets more face-time than any other WSAZ personality.
John is a nice guy and may be the best liked person on local TV.
Local TV will have to cut costs and news people is the obvious place.
Bloated management will still remain.
If it is bad at WSAZ, what must it be like at WOWK or WCHS?

Good riddance to Chris Olsen. I don't know the guy. He may be a super nice guy, but, IMHO, he sux as an anchor.
WSAZ is very quickly becoming an all female news organization.

Are they even requiring J school degrees anymore, or do you just need to be hot and want to be on TV?
Of course, many "newscasts" simply invole having the eye candy read a stack of McNews and Infotainment stories.
Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

I've never known anyone working local TV that had a j school degree that made any difference...Hoosier Daddy wrote:Aren't they all?Big Media wrote:WSAZ is very quickly becoming an all female news organization.

John Marra? Really? There's an Anchorman II plotline there somewhere.
I remember my days at OU Athens and how everyone was heralding the Scripps School of Journalism up there one of the best in the country, and from what I could tell...it was. Their newscasts, along with Marshall's...were better than alot of what I see on TV nowadays...where are all those kids?
Give me Bob Smith or Brunner for news and DJ or Jule for weather anyday.

in the last 10 years i've had kids start where I work from OU, out of the 14 or so I encountered, only 3 or 4 even seemed like they actually learned something there... every other one has been dumb as a brick....

Bud Daily was the best weatherman at 3. It snowed unexpectedly one morning, and on the air Bud remarked: “I just swept 3 inches of partly cloudy off of my car!”

J-school degrees aren't worth much. The worst writers at the newspaper at which I toiled were the J-school grads. The best had earned degrees in other fields.
