Chicago: No Olympics

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Reagan would have never bothered with this.

Things like this is what our secretary of state and diplomats are for... But this administration's cabinet likely has the weakest power delegation in history. Obama's shadow czars have more power, and answer to nobody but him. Not to mention that he seems to feel the need to do everything himself. Presidents are supposed to have large supporting casts. They're not meant to do everything.
Proof positive that everything you guys see is through the lens of a blinding hatred for Obama.

The Republican Party is no longer a political party. It’s a mindset, like Hitler's Brownshirt youth.
They feed on hatred: religious hatred, racial hatred, and intolerance.
And on fear: Scared to death because the world is changing.
When foreigners hear the word 'conservative', they think of kindly old men hunting foxes.
They’re not. They’re psychotic fascists.
Let's turn this around...

This is why I'm independent. It's the only rational position in a hyper-partisan world. I'm fed up with all of them.

Washington is completely out of control, and they're taking the entire country down with them.

2012 may be the biggest opportunity for a third party candidate since Perot in 1992.

God willing.

It may not have been necessary during Reagan's era, but it seems necessary now.
Obama wasn't the only Head of State going to bat for their country to be selected.

Two years ago, republicans were saying this to liberals:

Bush earned any hatred he received through seven years of his "kiss my ass if you don't like it" management style. Obama has been in office less than 10 months, and most of what he's tried to accomplish involves cleaning up Bush's mess -- something he told voters he'd do if elected.

Jet's initial post on this topic was laced with hatred against Obama. Almost all conservatives are this way. They want Obama sabotaged and neutered as quickly as possible, and they're willing to do ANYTHING to accomplish that end result. These are the same people who said "This is America, Love it or leave it" and bluntly stated that "anyone who didn't support "our President" was commiting a de facto act of treason and should be punished accordingly" during the Bush era.

Sorry, it just doesn't work when you reverse it.

If anything, the Democrats are a loosely banded group of Baskin-Robbins (31 flavors) politicians, with each having their own direction and special interest and very little effective party leadership. Despite having a majority, they don't seem to be able to get anything accomplished, especially with an all-out assault by Republicans (who seem to march in lock step on every issue) and the billions of dollars spent by special interest groups like the Insurance companies and Big Pharma.

The Democrats not only can't function as a majority political party through a collective unified vote on Capitol Hill, they insist on being nice and playing by the rules with bullies (Republicans) who only understand getting what they want anyway they can. Democrats also stab their own in the back. They did it with Jimmy Carter, they did it will Bill Clinton, and now they're doing it to Barack Obama. You'd never see a Blue Dog Republican. Karl Rove & Company would take the first one in the back room and eat them alive.

I wonder if the fact that Rio put a whole lot more money on the table had anything to do with it.

Olympics in Hammond, Gary and South Chicago.
A dream come true.
Kinda like the Mogadishu Olympics.

Has there ever been an Olympics in Africa?

I really do not think that the IOC has completely got the aftertaste of America's southern flair out of their mouths considering the fiasco that was Atlanta 1996. I know it was so bad that I have not watched an opening or closing ceremony since 1996.

Any effective leader will have this quality, to some extent. You can't be all things to all people and get anything done.

I certainly didn't agree with all of the so-called Bush doctrine, but at least we knew where stood on most issues.
Obama has been in office less than 10 months, and most of what he's tried to accomplish involves cleaning up Bush's mess -- something he told voters he'd do if elected.
I'm tired of hearing this stuff... This is Obama's presidency -- his economy, his recession, his issues. He needs to own up already and stop the backwards finger pointing.

At this rate, he will continue spend the next three and a half years blaming Bush for all of the things he fails to accomplish.
Jet's initial post on this topic was laced with hatred against Obama. Almost all conservatives are this way. They want Obama sabotaged and neutered as quickly as possible, and they're willing to do ANYTHING to accomplish that end result.
Imagine an alternate universe that almost happened -- President H. R. Clinton is advancing her health care agenda. (She would have whipped McCain by an even larger margin than Obama did, had she got the nomination). Republicans are already crying foul.

But we all know that it really doesn't have anything to do with her politics...oh no. It's really because the conservatives are all sexist pigs who cannot stand the fact that a female now runs the United States. They refuse to respect her authority. They will do anything to destroy her credibility and her agenda. After all, women belong in the kitchen cooking our fried chicken dinners on Sunday.

See how easy that was?

These are the same people who said "This is America, Love it or leave it" and bluntly stated that "anyone who didn't support "our President" was commiting a de facto act of treason and should be punished accordingly" during the Bush era.
I never supported that madness. I'm "freedom of speech" to the core, regardless of who is saying what.

But you have to keep in mind how traumatic 9/11 was to this country. People wanted solidarity against our common enemy, and some felt that the Bush bashing just didn't help matters at the time.

John McCain and Rudy Guiliani have little in common with James Dobson and Mike Huckabee politically. Yet, they are all republicans.

As for health care, I've been on record for years demanding some kind of reform. Unfortunately, this opportunity is about to be lost again because nobody can stop the partisan arguing long enough to hammer out a real workable solution... A genuine plan will take much longer than a couple of weeks. Nor could a single party or president take all the credit for it.

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen...

You all are forgetting the number one reason why it's a good thing to have the Olympics in Rio:

That's pretty funny coming from the guy who's hated him since the Wednesday after back in November 2000.

Funny, you folks, just a year ago, were declaring that "Dissent is patriotic!" Now you say's it's "racist"...

After 8 years of watching a bunch of crying, bitching, complaining liberals pout their way through the Bush presidency, you're now crying foul because the Republicans are taking pages from your own playbook.

And drop the "bullying" republicans crap... there aren't enough republicans holding office to stop ANYTHING the dems want to do... quit bitching, and get to work.

Does anybody catch the irony of having the Summer Olympics in Brazil, where it will be winter when they're held? I know it won't be cold, but it will be winter.

If they wanted action they should have sent Chicago's REAL leading citizen - Al Bundy.

oh, really??

Gee, wonder how much it cost to send GWB to the Olympics when he stayed at it for four days as opposed to the 17 hours or so that Obama stayed..

There is a difference between Olympics, and "please give us the Olympics", don't you think?

But I still didn't have a problem with him going.

If nothing else, it may urge the USOC to clean up its act.
And the meeting with McChrystal may have been the real object of the trip.

I'm happy for Rio getting the Olympics -- they've never had them in South America. Plus, as Lee illustrated earlier in the thread, there are some great features to being in Rio...
