Tell us the truth, Bob; you've burned a lot of weed in your time, haven't you? You reason like a person who has. I'm convinced.

I cannot wait to see the New York, Delaware and Pennsylvania State Troopers at the Jersey borders stopping the flow of legalized pot after they go the way of California's law under Obama's reduced effort DEA. Corzine and New Jersey needs additional tax money and this looks like it will be a better option than additional toll roads and increased tolls on existing toll roads.
I still say this C4C stuff is wrong and all it will do is postpone the inevitable total failure of GM and Fiat/Chrysler by deferring dollars for short term production increases. It only rewarded "consumption" and did not offer any real incentives that are economically and environmentally sound.
The first step in a successful revolution is to defeat all competing revolutionaries.

My comment wasn't for you, Jeepy. It was for Jet.

Re: Top 10 New Vehicles Purchased During Cash for Clunkers
For most of the last 20 years the US economy has been based on consumption. To put an incredibly complex subject very simply, everything is intertwined, anything that helps one thing helps everything. C4C apparently didn't help Chrysler at all if you say their sales figures for the month. Ford, Toyota and Honda were the big winners. As much as it's fun to say "let it all collapse", that's really not an option. And you can't really say, "that doesn't affect me", because everything affects everything.
Jet, I may have inhaled once or twice in my time, my real problem is having too much experience and curiosity. Oh, and I love Americans, not just America.
That, and I have way too much time on my hands while I'm "on the beach".

Re: Top 10 New Vehicles Purchased During Cash for Clunkers
From the beginning, my concern with the CFC program was that it would raise the price of used cars.
I'm a thinkin' more along the lines of the part-time board op, making minimum wage, that needs a clunker that can get him the 7 miles to work and back, on a regular basis.
Even if it was only in the short term, it made it harder to find a $1000 dollar car.
I never was that great at math, but what exactly is 3 Billion dollars divided by $4500 dollars?... is that the total number of cars sold under this program?.......... and is that the same number of “cheap transportation” cars that was removed from the market?.... has anyone checked the math, yet?
The government considers the program a success because they spent 3 billion dollars in a matter of weeks.......... is this really a sign of success?.......I don't think so........ not to mention, most car dealers have not even gotten there government check yet.

I make that 666,666 cars. Appropriate somehow, huh? You'd have to laugh if you didn't have to cry. Of course that's not allowing for graft, program money slipped to ACORN, and like that. But you can figure 666,666 cars are off the road, needlessly, and the poor people who might have purchased them cheap are SCREWED. Of course the left doesn't believe in markets but in the real world a giant loss of supply usually leads to a large increase of cost in the remaining supply. This is often refered to as the Law of Supply And Demand on the right, and Big Business Screwing The People on the left.

Of course 8 imports were the winners.... that was my point. Let the dinosaurs die and let the winners go forward until such a time that they:Bob Campbell wrote:Uh, did you miss the list of top 10 sellers in Cash for Clunkers. Eight were imports.
btw, Ford sales up 21.5% , Chrysler and GM double digits down again.
1... Tell US what we should like instead of us telling them.
2... Produce any "quality" they deem fit and expect us to be grateful for the chance to even own their product.
3...Expect us to pay the cost of their mismanagement via higher priced cars.
4... Convince us that the Union sabotage (a standard Union worker procedure) didn't affect the car I bought.
By the way, I have more respect for Ford than ever before. They, basically on their own are building a better car utilizing a better car company procedure. They, with many of the same problems as GM and Chrysler as far as actual production, are somehow succeeding (at least for now) while the other incompetents have run to Uncle Sucker.

Re: Top 10 New Vehicles Purchased During Cash for Clunkers
Unions didn't design or market the crappy cars that GM and Chrysler made. Amazing that the very same union makes Fords huh Breeze.
Rot starts at the top, always.
Pick a side. You complain that C4C was forcing us to buy crappy American product, then when the facts prove that wrong, you complain about that.
Timenuf, no evidence yet that C4C has affected the price of used cars. Used car dealers here in the Triad as a matter of fact are offering up to 1500 dollar rebates in a "beyond cash for clunkers" type marketing plan.

It is with all due genuine respect that I offer that perhaps this issue would better be addressed using critical thinking. Objectivity, logic and empiricism will keep the matter far more clear for all considerations than any given faith system, which may or may not be shared by others.TimeEnuf wrote:Appropriate, or maybe a bit scary...........reminds me a bit too much of my southern Baptist upbringing......... and that would makes BHO the anti******..................?
