Workin V-100 for $1.60 an hour

Post by CoolBreeze »

I stumbled across my old pay sheet from V-100. (I cant remember how I got this, as it was the stations)

$1.60 an hour for a 6 day work week. Then, I had to pay 50 cents a day to cross the Turnpike Bridge. Try that with a wife and kid in 1969. Tough even then. 8O

Chicken dinner at BBF in 1969 was $1.69--same as typical KFC dinner for $7.00+ now--mashed potatoes, coleslaw, three pieces of chicken and drink.

Some 5 years later I bought a new car--albeit a Mustang II/Pinto --for $2,995 plus tax.

Oh sure.... and gas was only 35 cents a gallon. (with about 15 miles to the gallon). But taking home $200 a month to feed a family of 3 plus groceries, rent utilities was still tough!

Do they make you pay for the coffee?

Bob, I was just waiting for the comparison. Actually, both apply... the hourly wage and the coffee.
