Looks like GM and Chrysler are toast

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

For every dumbass gold brick there are a hundred skilled workers. Do you really expect the system to be perfect? Can you name another system that is?
Well, there's always Indonesia or China. No unions there. Is that the labor system you would prefer?
I've only been in a union one time in my career, Aftra ( for only a couple years) so I'm not supporting unions because of any personal interest. Unions have faults but are vital to the protection of the laborer. American labor history is filled with abuses by management that have only ended with unionisation. Certainly, there have been abuse on the labor side also, but can anyone name any upper management people at any company in America who have missed any meal due to a union?

How could this President be so stupid as to make a public announcment the Chrysler must take this deal or else? Talk about putting Fiat in the driver's seat (pardon the pun) and Chrysler in a losing negotiation position. I suspect there will be even more demands forthcoming.

Know what was really funny? Back when Mercedes merged (bought) with Chrysler I thought... "what in the hell are they thinking??. Mercedes has it's plate full right now with quality control.... reports that Mercedes is NOT in the top quality car list has now circulated... and they buy Chrysler?? Oh yea! This will work out well!"

As it turned out, Mercedes sold Chrysler for pennies on the dollar. Biggest mistake they've ever made.

Now... if Chrysler does indeed hook up with Fiat, that will be a wreck waiting to happen that I'll enjoy watching!

Fiat sez no deal unless major cuts from unions.
15 days and counting till Barack cuts off Chrysler from the public funding.
It is up to the union bosses now.

They'll take the entire ship down before they give up an inch to the scabs.

So long, Chrysler...

Would that be the Canadian Union? Below from Reuters.

The Canadian Auto Workers union said on Wednesday that it plans to resume talks with Chrysler on Monday that have been stalled since the beginning of April. Those talks are crucial to Chrysler completing an alliance with Fiat. Continued.

The chief bargainer for the Canadian union also said he believed Chrysler was close to an agreement with the United Auto Workers in the United States. A representative of Chrysler and of the UAW could not be reached immediately for comment.

Wonder what management has given back.

Management and the stockholders(owners) of the company
are betting everything that this will work.
It amounts to quite a bit more than a 90,000 dollar a year job.
One wonders how many of the unionistas have stock in the company?

Chrysler is private equity and technically does not have any public stock. So this is a deal between Cerberus, Chrysler management, the Unions, the banks, and Fiat. IMO, the UAW and CAW would be fools to cut a deal to make the Fiat deal a reality which cuts all their bargaining power with Ford and GM. The unions will sacrifice their members to save face with the other two automakers.

Chrysler is toast. The fire sell on assets will begin by the end of May.

I love the headline of this article:

Jeepy, do you think that will be the absolute end of the Chrysler brands? 2009's will be the last ones?

I figure GM will end up breaking up the divisions into some form where they are somewhat autonomous, but are still mother GM-reliant. What do you think?

Jeep is a candidate for sell off.
I can't imagine anyone wanting the other divisions.
Chrysler Corp already sold off some profitable non-automotive divisions years ago.

Jeep could definately be sold. Word has it that their minivan line is a wanted product as well. A generation or two ahead of the other makers. Other than those.........
