I enjoyed his days with John Ford Coley better, but his traditional country certainly wasn't bad. My favorite from the country days has to be "My Old Yellow Car". Sad to see him go.

Having had no particular leanings to much of country music, I didn't follow much of Dan's country career. However, Rock is quite on the money--the man had a wonderful voice that was splendidly suited for whatever music he chose to perform. And, of course, his work in the '70s with John Ford Coley is timeless, with eloquently understated lyrics and tasteful arrangements. More to the point, it's clear that he enjoyed what he did. Even if it hadn't made him financially successful, I'm sure he'd have sung and played on some level for the sheer joy of making fine music.
I'll definitely be purchasing the collaborative effort he recorded with his brother, Jim.
