If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Not sure I agree... but I'm giving it some time. You can track my rants, if/when they exist, on the NC board.

Oh, iPhone/web streaming is already here, and going mainstream.

I thought this stuff was far off in the distant future.

Cool.

DGG and Planet work fine.

For you "tuner" folks, cut and paste these:

WDGG - http://216.235.94.13:20112
Planet - http://216.235.91.32:21898

Now....WHO??? said this was coming faster than anyone in broadcast-management realizes??? HMMMM......Oh well....the REAL future is IBOC!!!

It's still not there yet... not even close. Within the 3G bubble of the Triangle, it seems to work OK, assuming you can find and connect to a working stream. I suspect a road trip to WV from here will quickly show (about the time I hit 52N in Winston-Salem) that this is still no where near ready for prime time.

EDGE is the biggest reason I didn't bite on a 3G iPhone this summer... I was worried that it wouldn't work as well as 3G network.

According to AT&T, 3G sould be in Southern WV by next summer.

FTR, Verizon just lit up a huge chunk of network in WV this month, With EVDO broadband available. And I don't think they're finished expanding yet. The only thing I hate is they nail you on data usage, such as streaming, while AT&T and is unlimited.

Still not ready for prime time. Lost my feed 4 times between Burlington, NC and Greensboro (not a far drive). "EDGE" "tailored feeds sounds like bad AM.

Dropped 3 more times starting at downtown Winston, and before I got out of the area. Started listening to (gasp) analog radio at that point.

Sounds like HD once you cross the city grade threshold...

And now Clear Channel Broadcasting has released their own iPhone App called "I {heart} Radio". (The irony is overwhelming}.

Loads quicker (when it loads), sounds good (when it loads), as it uses a streaming AAC codec. Sadly it is GIGO... only select Clear Channel stations (and HD choices from the CC Format Lab... like "Pride Radio".)
