Re: WDCI airing Bob & Tom - why ...
My workplace keeps on 104.1 for background noise, I thought I was hearing things the other morning or maybe someone changed the station. I guess I really was hearing what I was hearing.
I'm just a simple listener and I don't know anything about how radio works but it never made sense to me why 104.1 carries basically the same music as 106.5, but 106.5 is about a hundred times better. Shouldn't 104.1 try a different format?

If magic calls and local breaks from the satellite music network were airing, I would have guessed a switching problem with the wrong audio going into the "sat" input of the automation.
However, I guess if they were getting the audio, then their receiver would have been authorized for it...unless you can get B&T some other way than Starguide.

I'm prolly a dumbass but, this being a regional board, I got no clue what market yer talkin' about. Call letters, please.kingmouse wrote:My workplace keeps on 104.1 for background noise, I thought I was hearing things the other morning or maybe someone changed the station. 104.1 was the original "at-work" station until the WVRC brought in Magic - with its semi-live jocks and programming. KISS-FM is long overdue for Withers to spend some $$$ either dumping the satellite programming altogether - or at the very least getting some new jingles. BTW, something about the MAGIC jingles they remind me of showtunes ...

KISS-FM 104.1 = WDCI - Bridgeport/Clarksburg - uses Jones Soft Hits format, owned by Withers - for some reason is/was airing Bob & Tom in the mornings.

The strangest part was the foreign weather forecast. I couldn't even figure out what part of the country it was supposed to be for, but I knew it definitely wasn't here.
Someone mentioned 1340 AM out of Clarksburg. I listen to the sports talk on there sometimes, but the station is dead air half the time and that's right in downtown Clarksburg. Then sometimes the audio will alternate with a few seconds of talk then a few seconds of stopping. I always just blamed it on AM radio. Someone told me once WV is a nightmare for AM radio because of the topography but I don't know if they were qualified or knew what the hell they were talking about.

Yes, AM radio is a nightmare in WV. Them thar hills eat up that RF really fast. But it always helps if you actually have audio on your AM carrier.
Side note: Bob and Tom are on the same Premiere satellite channel as Delilah.

During the days of Coshocton and about a year before the sale, Hot AC was to be the new format by design. It would be Clarksburg's Hit Music, 90's and Now. They had even started looking at jingle pkg, etc.
I had heard rumors that Withers wants to change it to ROCK 1041 - WDCI

Welllll, I concur with that... when we bought WTBZ, we were cautioned to check out the radial field... The tower is on a mountain... we did, and found that a whole forest had grown over it... we had have the trees knocked down, literally leveled by bulldozers, and put in a new radial field - bulldozers have a habit of destroying what is left of anything that could have been on the ground... btw - 5 miles of copper wire is not cheap... btw again - Tom Friend had decided the ATU was something that could be thrown over the hill... literally, we found it disconnected and about 100 yards over the hill (mountain), had it fixed and re-inserted by the nicest of engineers in the business, truly the salt of the earth...Yes, AM radio is a nightmare in WV. Them thar hills eat up that RF really fast.
We bought a new Harris HD ready transmittor from Harris... Harris is installing our new transmittor for the new dial position 1190 and power, and sent a whole crew to make the adjustments for the mountains and radial field to fit the transmittor to the tower... I have been totally awed by Harris... they are so concerned by every detail, things I would have never thought important... they were all over that hilltop to find the best place to build the ATU housing, and the best way to connect it to the tower... they were determined to find perfect match... We are truely blessed with modern technology and the abilities of equipment of that new technology. We are installing the new transmittor the last week of June if any of you are interested in watching... We are really excited, and wish to share if you would like to see how Harris does their installs...

Harris has some excellent support engineers, but I don't know how long they will keep the broadcast business. Word is that Harris will be bought or merged with another company looking at picking up their defense business. Some of their equipment (most notably the smaller FM transmitters) are already made by sub-contractors.

Thanks for the tip. There's a huge stack of papers we had to sign for a company that may not be there... The man who did all the measurements was from Baltimore, and he told us he was a subcontractor for Harris... nice fellow, very informative.Tom Taggart wrote:Harris has some excellent support engineers, but I don't know how long they will keep the broadcast business.
