Do you Twitter?
I have become hooked on Twitter. Has anyone else here started Tweeting about things or plug into news outlets through this service?

Re: Do you Twitter?
Nope. I had never heard of it until I saw it mentioned a few months ago in another thread on this board. I checked it out but I didn't get it.

I didn't, either. I mean, I did, but I didn't. It's like one of those dot-com-era things...a solution in desperate search of something that even half-resembles a problem.
But a website I frequent uses it...or used it. I don't know....I stopped going to it after I discovered the little Twitter thingy on it had deposited over 8000 tiny files (one for every update) on my computer and had eaten up a good chunk of the remaining space on my notebook's harddrive....

Re: Do you Twitter?
It has been growing by leaps and bounds in the wake of the controversy created at South by Southwest at the Sarah Lacey interview of Jeff Zuckerberg.
It is a pretty neat tool considering that some news organizations are broadcasting headlines on breaking stories. The BBC and MSNBC feeds are really neat. Now if only CNBC would do something on economic news than I would have a complete source for news feeds.

they're just tryin to restart the hype machine so they can sell it off before it totally goes under...
Doesn't MSNBC stand for the Media that Spins the News for Barrack's Cabinet?

Re: Do you Twitter?
I've had a Twitter account for well over a year now, but rarely use it. Mainly because I don't have many followers.
It can be set up to where you can send and receive Tweets through phone text. There are also third party Facebook and MySpace aps for it.
I still say it has potential. The problem is finding that fine line between real updates and making noise.

Re: Do you Twitter?
I do, and I have it tied into my Facebook. I use it more to keep up with friends and acquaintances rather than to broadcast my movements to a wider audience. But it's good fun. I didn't get it at first (nor did i get Facebook), but the more I played and the more people I knew on there, the better it got.
So sayeth His Royal Highness King Spike; greatest broadcasting talent of his generation.

The single best Internet invention of the 21st century (so far). Damn, is that shit addictive, though. I must stumble 15 or 20 pages per minute. Love it.
Also, if you have not tried PicLens (an add on for Firefox), it kicks serious ass.

I live on PicLens for viewing my photos and friend's photos on Flickr. Best tool of Web 2.0 although it has no "social" value.Big Media wrote:

I've discovered that it was not Twitter that deposited all those tiny files....it was Flickr!

I have a PRO account and would like to clean up the mess on my PC.Arp2 wrote:I have to make a correction!Arp2 wrote:....I stopped going to it after I discovered the little Twitter thingy on it had deposited over 8000 tiny files (one for every update) on my computer and had eaten up a good chunk of the remaining space on my notebook's harddrive....

Re: Do you Twitter?
These were from a blog I keep open that used a Flickr gadget to show a selection of photos, zooming/animating individual shots. (The author has since removed the gadget......I'm guessing others -- maybe he, himself -- figured this out, too.)cgarison wrote:Arp2 wrote:Where are the Flickr files stored on the PC? The files were at C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Name)\Local Settings\Temp\plugtmpx\, where that "x" might be a number or nothing at all.

Pownce may be the next best option for domain squatting.
Even though it's been out for almost a year, almost nobody knows about it. And it can be very useful. I just don't hardly know anybody on it.
