WSAZ wreck coverage.

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

WSAZ wreck coverage.

Post by genlock »

Somewhere (I assume from WKYT), WSAZ got widescreen coverage of a wreck a Morehead. They had to squish the picture and downconvert it to 480i for local broadcast. When will WSAZ get HD capability for the local news? Converted widescreen looks bad. I assume they are waiting on their studio automation stuff to arrive/work. Ignite? Squirrel probably slowed it down.

I am continually amazed at what you "see" (from a technical perspective) on our local TV news ...

No, the part that is amazing is when you see an entity like ABC's WPVI in Philly take HD content and squish it to fit a 480i feed. Or when WPVI broadcasts 480i pictures on their 1080i HD signal. Sickening I say.

I pick on ABC 6 here in the Delaware Valley, but every station in the US guilty of this.
