River Radio Ministries' WCVO (104.9 the River) in Columbus, OH has launched an expansion frequency in Wooster, OH, on WQKT (104.5). The move adds an entirely new audience in Northeast Ohio, along with their current listeners throughout Central Ohio. On Friday, May 3, The River hosted an open house to new friends and families of The River in Wooster, while the afternoon show of Hailey and Jace broadcasted live from the new station.

President and CEO Bill Montgomery said, "After months of planning, the day is here. We are eager to welcome Wooster and the greater mid-Ohio area to the River family, to share our lives with them through encouraging music and conversation, as well as meeting them in their communities. I'm so thankful for our teams in Columbus and Wooster that have worked hard over the past several months to get us to this exciting day."

The River plans to continue elements of WQKT's local programming by including daily Agriculture Reports, the popular daily Farm Hour at 5am, and local news and sports updates. Also in the purchase of WQKT is WKVX-AM (960). An AM programming strategy is in the works and will be announced in the coming weeks.

The overall reaction to this has been dreadfully bad for the new owner. Taking a local station that was heavily involved in the community to program it with religious programming from Columbus. What were they thinking?
