WV Broadcasters Association winners?

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

From the application instructions:

"Make sure your entry “works.” We have received entries that either didn’t have audio or just didn’t work. We understand that it can be a time-crunching thing, but please be sure to double-check, then triple-check, your entry CD, DVD or VHS to make sure it works correctly. Have 1-3 other people watch or listen to your entry to make sure it works on different CD players or DVD/VHS players."

I don't have a list, but congratulations to both Jack Logar and Brian Grant for their wins. Unfortunately, our sports play-by-play entry didn't win, but all I REALLY wanted to do was to meet Jay Nunley. He's running for Governor, you know. As I didn't get to meet him, I felt a double loss. I DID get to speak with Dave Allen again, so all worked out well.

WCHS/WVAH did quite well on the TV side. WTAP won an award for, I think, best morning weather. Todd Baucher accepted for her, as Abby has left for South Bend, Indiana. At least one other person has left that won for either greener pastures in the business or has entered another profession. WDTV picked up at least one award. As one would expect, several stations won multiple awards. Hopefully, someone has that list.

The show moved quickly along once it began, with accepters making quick comments overall. The aforementioned Jack Logar's were memorable. Erica Goldsmith, Miss West Virginia USA was the awards presenter.

It would be good in the future to somehow mention all the entrants, ala' the other awards shows, but time probably would not permit that. HOWEVER, kudos to both Michelle Crist and to the staff of the Waterfront Place Hotel for a great job. I did feel badly for the hotel staff, as a leak around a lobby light made for an impromptu waterfall...an unscheduled special effect.

I can't recall many of the winners, maybe it was the beer. However, Hoppy's reading of Zep was darn funny. :)

No offense to WCHS but they won a lot because there was no competition. WOWK didn't enter anything and WSAZ only entered a few categories.
Are awards falling by the wayside? WOWK and WSAZ did not enter the AP awards at all this year meaning WCHS will win every award by default. What's the point?

As far as TV goes, they aren't split into market sizes. It's one big pool.

It always amazed me at how under-represented the Huntington market was in this statewide awards program. It amazed me even more at how over-represented the Morgantown area always seemed to be. I felt that way until I spent some time in and around Morgantown, listening to the local stations and comparing them to what I heard in Huntington. The awards are spot on. Morgantown radio is big city radio. Tight, clean, innovative, fun to listen to. Maybe it's being in the shadow of Pittsburgh. Maybe it's because the West Virginia Radio Corporation has done so much to keep the bar so high in that market. I don't know. Huntington would do well to look, listen, and learn (in more ways than just radio, by the way) from that hated shining star on the hill in North Central West Virginia.

By the way, congrats to WKAZ for being (hands down) the best oldies station in West Virginia.

And Go Mountaineers! What a huge upset against Kentucky. Welcome to the Final Four!
