Consumer Alert
This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009, to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the Nation’s transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322) or visit the Commission’s digital television website at: http://www.dtv.gov.
FCC hits retailers on analog TV warning BIG BRUDDER'S WATCHING: The Federal Communications Commission is looking out for your interests, making sure you don't buy the wrong TV.
The FCC and most broadcasters have done little to prepare and educate the public. And most big box retailers are even worse.
In the cited article http://www.philly.com/dailynews/feature ... rning.html,
the author mentions a 99 dollar digital SD television. If you go to the Target site and find that set, you find that it is an analog set. Even the "learned" newspaper writer mistakenly decided the set was digital.
Target labelled the set as "SD". Many folks might assume that a "SD" label denotes Standard Definition Digital. I think Target is misleading the consumer with that label. At least the FCC analog label is listed on the web page when you drill down to get the product details.
I received a message from Amazon because I see my used crap in their "marketplace". It is just easier than eBay. Anywho, they said that I must include that disclaimer on any TVs, NTSC tuners, or even radios with the built in TV aural tuner.
BUT YOU STILL CAN'T BUY A DAMN CONVERTER AT A REASONABLE PRICE!
But you can buy a 13" digital TV for $99! WTF?

I've had a Samsung HD receiver for a couple of years - bought it for $150 or so open-box at Circuit City. Best Buy had nada. Now, it seems that neither of them are too interested in selling tuners.
BTW, with the SIR-T351 and a pre-amp, I get all the DC HD signals 60 miles away, and have pulled in some DX (WVEC and WHRO, for example.)
