Some days start out better than others

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Some days start out better than others

Post by CoolBreeze »

I had a very short 8mm film that I shot at a Beatles concert in Cincinnati back in 1966. It had no sound and the camera had no zoom. The actual Beatles footage was about a minute and a half. I found this film while cleaning out my basement, and decided to place it on E-Bay instead of throwing it away.

So all week the top bid was $100. Even early this morning, right before the auction ended, it hadnt moved.

But then the snipers came out:

Hey, rub a little of that eBay anointing on me! I just put 36 items on...even though they are not as nice and unique as yours!

'bout the best things I've got on are: 1940's Benrus wrist watch, 1930's-1940's pocketknife collection, 3 of the first 4 "Saturday Night Live" season box sets, a bunch of VHS tapes featuring Shemp Howard ("The Three Stooges") solo shorts, and the usual Hot Wheels and baseball cards.

Also on is Giorgio Moroder's "Best Of The Early Years" CD. If you know rarities, you know that this thing is something to have. Probably the nicest item I have on there. You can always find "Son Of My Father" everywhere, but to get CD copies of "Moody Trudy", "Looky Looky", "Underdog" and "Arizona Man"? Almost impossible...

See how pathetic this film is? The first 3 minutes is just my train trip from Charleston to Cincinnati. So I wondered who would be crazy enough to pay that kind of money.

But then.... I got a call from overseas:

You would NOT believe who bought this! Part of the agreement however is that I never divulge who it is. They will send a courier to pick it up even, which means no shipping charges for me.

Yes... this has been a VERY good day. :D

On a side note: I found a bunch of photos taken of the concert. I always wondered why the Beatles were so hard to hear (besides the 12,000 screaming fans). Check the Amps:

What else do you notice about The Beatles onstage? NO MONITORS!

They were basically using their amps to play out of AND hear themselves, while they were also (in most venues) pumped through the stadium or concert hall system. Go back and watch a lot of the old Shea Stadium concert footage...

So how much did you get?
Speaking of monitors, one of the first major shows to use them was the Stones Altamont concert. If you look at the film, you see they were using what looks live Ampeg speaker cabinets.

We were talking about that show yesterday at the station...was that around the same time of the Cleveland show? The late Jack Armstrong MC'd the show, and as the story was told to me, so many fans stormed the stage, that Armstrong had to push the band off the stage and state that if the audience didn't settle down that they weren't coming back on stage...also heard that he shared some kind bud with 'em...

$1,4500?
It's from some country with a different numbering system than we use.
Estonia?

It would seem to me that the only conditions by which you are bound are those of eBay.

Nope, I've been sent a formal contract by the buyer to sign not only any rights away, but verbal instructions to keep my mouth shut. When the money is wired.... well.... 8)

I came back to this story to tell it correctly to someone and noticed the video link is not functional. Did you take the video down off of YouTube?

And, hey, surely enough time has passed for us to hear.....the rest....of the story.
