WVRC Changes: WCHS News Network

Post by unchoopfan »

A Charleston variation of the "WAJR News Network" model is rolling out at WVRC, with today's format flip of WKAZ (680 AM/95.3 FM) from oldies to news/talk. WCHS-AM recently added an FM translator at 96.5 FM (W243DR) for its news/talk programming. WKAZ's new primary programming is United Stations' Bloomberg Radio Network.

WVRC's Sarah Shaver posted the following note on the Charleston's Oldies 95.3 & 68 KAZ AM Facebook page today regarding the format change:

"Yes... that's not The Beatles or The Four Tops you're hearing this morning. WV Radio has made the very difficult decision to join 680 WKAZ-AM with our flagship station, WCHS-AM, and Charleston's ESPN 1490 to form a strong trio of news-talk oriented stations. You'll still hear Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball on 95.3 and 68 KAZ this spring and summer - the first game is April 3rd against the Boston Red Sox! Please know that we'll miss interacting with you here on the Facebook page and playing The Greatest Hits of All Time for you. Nothing is forever... and that gives me hope the Oldies will return one day. :) God's blessings to you all - Sarah Shaver"
