Ahhh.... They need food to feed the zombies at the other stations.

I just can't shake the thought of Larry Fine and Shemp Howard selecting Moe Howard as their leader.

So 13 goes from one quasi-channel to maxing out the bandwidth.

And Nexstar goes from all but shunning subchannels to basically embracing them.

There will probably be a few calls to the newsroom after they ditch the Doppler channel.

Now let's see how long it takes them to (finally) upgrade the DD 2.0 to 5.1.

Somehow I bet the 1080i for bounce tv is not accurate.

I'll guarantee that with my set of rabbit ears at The KY Compound, I cannot walk upstairs right now and get 13.2 on my TV but I can get a pretty signal from 13.1. They have a lot of work ahead of them if they are going to get this right.

So how does the compression algorithms work for broadcast digital??? If the broadcaster can use the tools to compress and encode the video that are used by the classless pirates torrenting movies (like YIFY), then they could probably have the room to transmit all their channels in 1080i, but I doubt if that is possible.

BTW:
Bounce TV is in 480i everyplace I looked, so that's how it must come from the mothership.

So much for the 1080i CBS feed with 3 480i digital channels being an option. But, by definition, 720p is full HD.

The conversion to digital HDTV and the promise have certainly been short of expectations.

I found a headline from this story in my Facebook feed (courtesy of a friend that shared it from WOWK/tristateupdate.com) and thought to my self how could such a horrible incident could have happened locally in the tri-state.

3-day-old baby killed by family dogs.

Oh my god! Where did this tragedy take place and could I know the family??? Then I clicked the link to the story (HERE) and found this as the first paragraph.
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Police in Central California say two family dogs killed a 3-day-old baby after her mother left her on the couch and walked away for a few seconds.
FRESNO! Who gives a flying frack about FRESNO!

So I start looking at the 'Crapstar' feed of news stories and find it littered with trash articles not from the tri-state. What the bloody hell is this???? I want local news from my local stations (especially when I am out of the area) and not a bunch of crap fed over the wire from the AP. If I wanted to see the AP news wire, I would subscribe to the AP news wire.

Other non-tristate headlines from the WOWK Facebook page:
Man who went on mac and cheese tirade is arrested
Fast food mix-up leads to shooting
Tim Tebow helps during a medical emergency in the sky
Dad Put Infant in Fridge After Leaving Her in Hot Car

WSAZ and WCHS is doing this too on their web. Its a corporate thing. Sharing.
Whenever the locals don't have anything going or are lazy or short staffed, they
must just drop in some stuff from the corporate dust-bin of news. We used to call
it wire stories or net feeds back in the day. Sometimes they do not do a very good job of
identifying the location of the stories. That goes even for local stories. I spend a lot of
time with the sound muted (and no captioning) and the graphics do a poor job of identifying
locations and people. All the stations are guilty of this. They do maintain a large banner at
the bottom of the screen that, at times, blots out the action of the story. Just so we can see
the time and temp.

WSAZ, WYMT and WCHS have done a much better job in keeping their feeds tied more locally,

BUT(and everything said before the but is apt to be pure BS)

I have a propensity to use the WSAZ app as my primary source of tri-state news followed closely by the WCHS app. WSAZ (as well as sister station WYMT) keeps all their items in nice buckets where all the AP news feed garbage is filtered out right from the start. On the WCHS app, I have to dig into a single menu level to filter out the national human interest crap (because I don't care a hoot about Blake Lively screening stabbing or John Boyega changing the academy.) But with WOWK, they published some of those stories (listed above) with click bait headlines making it look like local stories and then I see the 'fracking Fresno' in the dateline. (Grrrr). Quite annoying.

We all knew that Crapstar was going to muck with the WOWK website when they acquired the station, but I just was not expecting them to go beyond spyware advertising based video services and step into the realm of Nick Denton's, "Gawker Style," click bait headlines. Just very disappointed in the leadership at the top because I know the people in Charleston have no way to resist this stupidity they are told to do.
